𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑬 𝑾𝑨𝑹𝑺 was officially here, and Christiana was anything but thrilled. She'd just spent a peaceful day at the beach, but the thought of spending hours in the desert for this event had her feeling the opposite. Sand was fine in small doses, but in the scorching heat of the desert? Not so much. She hated the dry, gritty texture of it, the way it clung to everything, and to top it off, she wasn't feeling great either.

On the way there, Christiana had impulsively decided to grab a sub sandwich from a random corner store. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight, it was a terrible mistake. Twenty minutes later, she was hunched over, emptying the contents of her stomach.

"You gotta stop eating from places like that, CJ," Jesse sighed, holding her hair back as she squatted near a dumpster.

"I was hungry," she muttered, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

"Yeah, now look at you." Jesse's voice was a mix of amusement and concern.

Chris shot him a glare, still bent over. "Are you seriously judging me right now?"

"No, never that," he replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he fidgeted with a crumpled piece of paper in his hand.

She raised an eyebrow, trying to straighten up. "What's that in your hand?"

Jesse glanced down at the paper before meeting her gaze. "Oh, it's my pink slip."

"For?" she asked, confused.

He gave her a grin, almost mischievous. "I'm throwing it down."

Christiana's eyes widened. "No, you're not."

"Yes, I am. Just like Brian," Jesse said, his grin widening.

"Well, Brian is an idiot. Don't be like Brian," she said, shaking her head.

"What, you don't have faith in me?" Jesse teased.

Chris sighed, pushing herself to her feet. "I have faith in you, but this is your dad's car, Jess," she said, walking outside the trailer with him. The sun was beating down, and she could already feel the sand sticking to her skin. As the door swung open, she saw Jesse, now joined by Brian, leaning casually against a nearby car.
