𝑴𝑰𝑨 𝑻𝑹𝑰𝑬𝑫 to psych herself up, but the words stuck in her throat. She had wanted to tell Eli in a more private, meaningful way—but that wasn't possible right now.
She glanced at him, sitting on the ground and watching Jesse sleep soundly on a makeshift pallet under a table. Jesse had proudly declared it a "bunk bed" earlier.
"Eli," Mia said softly, her voice gentle as she reached out to rub the back of his neck.
He turned to her, his expression warm and curious. "Yeah?" he whispered, careful not to disturb Jesse's sleep.
Mia took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant," she blurted out, unable to hold it in any longer.
Eli froze for a second, his breath catching as the words sank in. His eyes widened in disbelief, then softened with joy.
"You're serious?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Mia nodded, her lips twitching into a smile she couldn't contain even if she tried.
Without another word, Eli rose to his feet, pulling her into a tight embrace. He lifted her off the ground as though she weighed nothing, his emotions overwhelming him. "You have my entire heart," he murmured into the crook of her neck, his voice thick with emotion.
From a distance, Brian, Dom, and Christiana watched the scene unfold. Brian grinned knowingly, while Dom gave a subtle nod of approval. But Christiana's gaze was distant, her mind wandering back to the moment earlier that day when everything had froze for her, a memory she couldn't quite shake.
Brian noticed her distant expression and gently rubbed her hips, his touch grounding her as she sat on his lap. "You okay, Chris?" he murmured, his voice soft but filled with concern.
"Hm?" Christiana blinked, snapping out of her thoughts and turning to face him.
"I said, are you okay?" he repeated, his eyes searching hers.
Christiana held his gaze for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts. She wanted to say she was fine, but the truth weighed too heavily on her. Finally, she shook her head. "No," she admitted quietly.
