"𝑭𝑼𝑪𝑲 𝑹𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑻 there," Christiana groaned as Brian gripped her hand tighter.
"Right there?" Brian teased, his voice filled with amusement.
"You're not funny," Christiana whined, trying to pull away from the blue-eyed man.
"Aww, I'm sorry, Chris," he chuckled, pulling Christiana back toward him with a playful grin.
"Okay, I'm done teasing," Brian said, finally removing the splinter from Christiana's hand. She let out a deep sigh of relief.
"Thank you," she muttered, moving her hand around as the pain subsided. "Getting a fat splinter was not on my agenda for today," she added, looking at the tiny wound on her palm.
Brian had been making it up to Jesse, as Christiana had told him to do the night before. He took both Jesse and Christiana to the beach, where Jesse was having the time of his life. Christiana, not so much, and in the middle of helping Jesse build a sandcastle, she'd managed to get a splinter from a seashell.
"No thank you," Brian replied with a slight smile.
"For what?" Christiana asked, raising an eyebrow.
"For making that noise... 'fuck right there!'" Brian teased, imitating her voice and laughing.
Christiana slapped his arm. "You're still not funny."
"I'm just saying, it brought me back," Brian shrugged, grinning.
"That was years ago, Brian. Don't live in the past," Christiana sighed, rolling her eyes.
"It was fun," Brian responded with a shrug.
"Yeah, well, that fun got you here, bonding with the child we created," Christiana pointed out.
"I'm glad it happened then!" Brian said, his tone unexpectedly sincere. His words caught Christiana off guard. She knew he would do anything to make up for the past, but hearing him say he was glad about their situation was different.
"This wasn't supposed to happen like this," Brian said, pulling Christiana out of her thoughts. She glanced up at him, trying to figure out where he was going with this.
