"I...I don't know what to say. I really don't." Yuuji muttered, his tone of voice showing how broken he really felt. After Gojo told his story, he didn't have any words. He didn't know how to feel. But Gojo was right, he didn't do it for revenge- he killed those people as a mercy. Even Principal Yaga knew that by having Gojo there, these people would die easier deaths.
But even so, that doesn't excuse the fact that these people are now dead and (Y/n) is all alone. She lived on the streets for almost 6 years, barely eating, barely staying alive- all because her family befriended curses, to the the point that they'd kill sorcerers to save them. Itadori couldn't excuse that, no matter how much he wanted to. Because curses were the enemy, that much was clear to him the day Junpei died.
"Itadori..." Gojo sighed, scratching the back of his head as he looked down at his feet. It seemed as if he also didn't know what to say. Gojo didn't expect to tell that story to anyone after telling Kento. Honestly, he just really didn't want to after how Kento reacted.
"No...just...I need some time to think." Yuuji told them both stumbling back and walking backwards to the exit.
"You can't tell (Y/n), Itadori. You can't." Gojo called out, making his voice as firm as possible not matter how much it threatened to crack. Itadori wondered, was Gojo more scared of the higher ups trying to kill her if she knew or the possibility that she'd try to kill him?
"I..." Yuuji turned around and hurried to the door, desperate to get some air. It was almost as if the world was spinning.
"Don't go far, Itadori. Remember that you're supposed to be dead right now." Kiyataka called out, practically going past deaf ears as Yuuji stumbled out of the building. The sun was going down now, the sky a hue of orange that told Yuuji that he'd been in that room longer than he'd realised. He was too immersed in his own girlfriend's family history.
He'd wished he wasn't so nosy, that he just stayed curious forever. Now he'll have this burden forever on his chest that could end them all. If he told her, she could turn against the jujutsu sorcerers for what they did- thus endangering his relashionship. If he didn't tell her and she somehow found out on her own, and then found out that he knew all along- well, that would possibly be the end of their relationship.
Yuuji crashed into tree after tree as he entered the forest, not going down a path incase anyone were to see him. But he was dizzy, and the trees kept moving. The air became thinner and he was losing the strength to hold himself up. He didn't know how long he continued walking into the forest untill he fell down to his knees, leaning his back against the nearest trees, gasping.
Yuuji dug his fingers into the mud, grounding himself as he gasped in air. He could hear the king of curses chuckling wickedly in his head, finding this more than amusing.
"It seems that the brat is having a mental breakdown." Sukuna mocked, toying with him. He could hear how entertained the man was, without even seeing his face.
"Shut up! For once just shut up, Sukuna!" Yuuji yelled, slapping his cheek as if Sukuna had been speaking to him in the form of a mouth on the boy's skin. But Sukuna hadn't, instead just echoeing his voice throughout Yuuji's mind. That was more effective in driving him mad.
"Why? So you can wallow in guilt and self-pity? It's not your family that six eyes murdered in cold blood. Don't act like the victim." Sukuna teased, making Yuuji grip onto his head so hard he thought he'd be able to crush it.
"Shut up!" Yuuji yelled, clenching his eyes shut. Sukuna hummed with amusement, clearly not planning to oblige to the kid's request.
"I wonder, will you tell her or will you hide it?" Sukuna mused, Yuuji's eyes watering to the point that it stung. He couldn't tell her. He just couldn't. She'd never recover. But he couldn't keep this a secret. He'd drive himself crazy.
"If I tell her...she'll freak." Yuuji croaked out, his eyes opening and barely focusing on his hands infront of him. Everything was blurry and he didn't know if it was because of the panic or tears.
"Would you blame her? Being close to so many murderers for so many years." Sukuna sighed with fake sympathy, making anger bubble within Yuuji's chest.
"She'll hate me if I don't tell her." Yuuji whispered to himself, Sukuna humming in agreement as if they were playing a game where they listed the pros and cons of Itadori's two options.
"But on the other hand, she may become a curse user if you do tell her. She'll leave you and six eyes behind." Sukuna mused, playing with Yuuji's fears.
"Leave? You really think she'll leave?" Yuuji asked the curse, the worst case scenario playing out in his mind now that Sukuna said exactly what he feared.
"I would. I'd plan my revenge immediately." Sukuna told him with a small chuckle, making Yuuji's eyes go round and wide with panic.
"Revenge? N-no, (Y/n) would never!" Yuuji fought, his voice trembling, unsure of his own words. Because if he was in (Y/n)'s place, he'd for sure take revenge. It was then that he remembered the looks on all those curses faces through the reflection on the train table. They looked hopeful, ready and determind. What if they fueled her anger, making her feel things she didn't want to? Like how negative energy effected humans? Would they force her to take revenge?
"I wouldn't be so sure." Sukuna cackled.
"I can't keep this from her. It's too important." Yuuji told quietly to Sukuna, also trying to convince hismelf that this was the truth. But Sukuna's hum told him that he knew otherwise. They shared the same body, of course Sukuna could te if he was lying or not.
"...I don't know how to keep this from her." Yuuji then admitted a few seconds later, telling the truth now.
"It's simple. Just don't mention her family. Let her find out on her own." Sukuna told the boy, manipulating him.
"Will she be able to?" Yuuji asked quietly.
"If she starts paying more attention, definitely." The curse grinned.
"She already knows the higher ups are involved, it's only a matter of time before she connects the dots herself." Sukuna continued, Yuuji nodding numbly. No matter what choice he made, (Y/n) would find out anyway. There was no protecting her from that.
It was then that Yuuji recognised the manipulation, realising that Sukuna was suddenly trying to be helpful. Sukuna was never this invested. Yuuji groaned and hit his head repeatedly, hating himself for not seeing it sooner.
"What's your end game, Sukuna? There must be a reason you're suddenly being so talkative." Yuuji asked, glaring at the ground, the curse laughing.
"How am I supposed to know that you're not going to just tell (Y/n) the first chance you get? Then she'll know that I kept it a secret from her and you'll gain her trust and gratitude." Yuuji told him, realising how the story would play out. After all, Sukuna knew what he knew only because Yuuji knew it too.
"You don't know." Sukuna grinned sadistically.
"And what makes you think I have a way to contact her without your knowledge?" Sukuna then suddenly asked with a smirk, making Yuuji roll his eyes.
"Don't deny it. I know you two spend time together. I don't know how, but I know you do." Yuuji replied. Sukuna was almost impressed with his intelligence.
"If you don't want me to tell her, you'll owe me...a favour." Sukuna proposed, grinning.
"A favour? What kind of favour?" Yuuji asked him, seeming suspicious.
"Anything I want. To be used at an undecided future date" Sukuna said.
"I'm not letting you kill anyone or run away- or take my body!" Yuuji then bursted out quickly, realising what kind of auspicious things he could ask for.
"Nothing like that." Sukuna denied, rolling his eyes boredly. Yuuji thought over it for a second. And despite knowing the danger of his predicament, he still said,
"Then...deal."
