Malika checked her phone and saw the countless missed calls of her mother. She was going to reply back when a new message came to her in box and is also from her mother. She opened it and immediately her mood changes.

Be home before 6:00, Omar and his family are coming for dinner!
Love, Mom.

Malika hissed harshly before putting the phone in her back pack. She feel like screaming out her lungs because this is the second bad news of today, earlier she collected a test script and it was very bad. She has to pull her shit together and read before the exams and now...

That's stupid Omar!

She walked into the school library, her eyes scanning the room for an empty table to study at. As she made her way towards the back of the room, she noticed a familiar figure sitting alone at a table.

It was Adam.

Malika's heart skipped a beat as she approached him. She couldn't believe that she was about to have a conversation with the same guy who she has dared to kiss her at a party just yesterday..

"Hey there," Adam said, looking up from his book, his beautiful eyes staring at her.

"Hi," Malika replied, trying to keep her voice steady.

Adam smirked. "What brings you here?"

"I'm studying for my upcoming tests of course," Malika said, pulling out her textbooks.

"Ah, the studious type," Adam said, leaning back in his chair. "I never would have pegged you for a nerd."

Malika rolled her eyes. "I'm not a nerd. I just take my studies seriously. And this is so ironic." She said looking at his book.

The badboy is also a nerd. Did that even make sense.

Adam chuckled. "Sure, sure. So, how have you been?"

Malika hesitated for a moment before answering. She wasn't sure if she could trust Adam or if he was just trying to play another one of his games.

"It's been okay," she said cautiously.

Adam raised an eyebrow. "Just okay? That doesn't sound very exciting."

Malika sighed. "If you can see, today has been stressful."

Adam's expression softened. "I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Malika was taken aback by his sudden change in demeanor. She had expected him to make fun of her or belittle her problems, but instead, he seemed genuinely concerned.

"Um, no thanks. I think I'll be okay," she said, still unsure of how to react.

Adam nodded. "Well, if you ever need someone to talk to, you know where to find me."

Malika smiled. "Thanks, I appreciate it."

The two of them continued to study in silence for a while, occasionally exchanging small talk. Malika couldn't help but notice how different Adam was from the guy she met at the party. He seemed more mature and grounded just like the first time she meet him here. Now the badboy attitude he usually show off is gone.

The guy is mysterious.

As they packed up their things and prepared to leave, Adam turned to Malika with a grin.

"Hey, maybe we should hang out sometime. You know, outside of school."

What!

Malika felt her heart skip a beat. Was he asking her out on a date?

"Sure, that sounds nice," she said, trying to keep her cool.

Adam chuckled. "Great."

As Malika walked out of the library, she couldn't help but feel excited about the possibility of a new friendship with Adam. She knew that he is trouble, but maybe, just maybe, he was turning his life around for the better.

This is so great!

Malika squealed grabbing the attention of the other students. She quickly left the place.

Just as she expected, Omar seemed to be everywhere she went, always trying to strike up a conversation with her or get her attention. Malika did her best to avoid him, but it seemed like he was always one step ahead of her.

Ya Allah!

At the family dinner, Omar sat next to her as always which she has come to notice that is not coincidence, he make small talks, despite Malika's obvious discomfort. Malika's parents didn't seem to notice anything wrong, and they continued to talk about Omar as if he was already a part of the family.

"You know, Omar has been doing really well at work lately," her father said. "He's been promoted to a higher position, and he's making a lot of money."

Malika felt sick to her stomach. She knew that her parents were talking about Omar as a potential husband for her, and she didn't want anything to do with him. She had her own dreams and ambitions, and she didn't want to be tied down to someone she didn't love.

Why can't they just understand!

After dinner, Omar approached Malika once again. "I've been thinking about you a lot lately," he said, his voice low.

The nerve of him!

Malika took a step back. "I'm not interested in you, Omar. Please leave me alone."

Omar's face darkened. "You're making a mistake, Malika. I could give you everything you've ever wanted."

Malika shook her head. "Money and status aren't everything. I want someone who loves me for who I am, not for what I can give them."

Omar sneered. "Love? What does love have to do with anything? You'll learn soon enough that love doesn't pay the bills."

Malika turned and walked away, feeling angry and frustrated. She knew that she needed to find a way to get through to her parents and make them see that she didn't want to marry Omar after her graduation. But how could she do that when they were so set on the idea?

As the hours slowly passed by, Malika continued to avoid Omar as much as possible. She's just hoping that she could find a way to convince her parents to let her follow her own path.

But as she and Halima's graduation is approaching which is next year, Malika knew that she was running out of time. Her parents would soon start talking about marriage, and she didn't want to be forced into something she didn't want.

She sat in her room that night, staring out the window at the stars, Malika made a decision. She would talk to her parents and tell them how she felt, no matter how difficult it might be.
