Malika

Three days passed, and Malika remained locked up in her room, barely eating or sleeping. She had lost all interest in the things she used to do, All she could think about was Adam and how he had betrayed her.

She tried to reach out to Halima, but her sister seemed distant and preoccupied. Malika felt like she was all alone in the world, with no one to turn to.

Today, as she lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, she heard a knock on her door. She didn't bother getting up to answer it, assuming it was just one of the maids.

But then she heard Halima's voice.

"Malika, can I come in?"

Malika sat up, surprised. "Sure," she said, her voice hoarse from disuse.

Halima walked into the room and sat down on the bed next to her. She looked tired and worried.

"I'm sorry I haven't been here for you," Halima said softly. "I've been dealing with some things of my own."

Malika felt a surge of anger. How could she be so selfish? Didn't she realize how much she needed her right now?

But then she saw the tears in Halima's eyes, and realized that her sister was hurting too.

"What's going on?" Malika asked gently.

Halima took a deep breath. "Nothing." she said quietly.

Silence follows after that. Malika doesn't want to push, she knows her sister will tell her when she's ready. And she knows her problem is not as bad as hers.

"Muhammad is married and has a son." She blurted out.

Malika's puffy eyes widened. "Married?"

"Yes and he has been lying to me all this while. How can someone do that!"

"Am so sorry." Malika move towards her and engulf her into a hug as she cried. They're all in so much pain and heart broken.

Malika knows how much her sister loves Muhammad and to be lied all this month is so heartless. All the men they have once cared for are bunch of cowards. She wished she can turn back time and changed whatever that has happened. She would have never let herself involve in that fight and she would have listened to Halima when she was so blinded in love with him.

Only if....

The door to her room opened and they release from each others embrace. Malika glance at the door and saw there mother with a distaste expression.

"Halima, go to your room."

"Mom-"

"Now!"

Halima stood up and left the room closing the door behind her.

Malika looked at the floor feeling the fresh tears that was running in her cheeks. She knows she has brought shame to her family but something about how her parents are so angry makes it....strange. Since when she was a kid her parent have always been more strick to her compare to the rest of her siblings. She still remember when she and halima were young and they will sneak up to the kitchen at night to bake only for them to make a mess in the pantry. Her parent will always tell Halima to go to her room which they scold her.

Did they not love her?

Why does she always feel like she doesn't belong here?

Was she dopte-

"Omar's family will be coming Tomorrow for the wedding greetings. By Friday you will be married off." Her mother said like it the one thing she has ever wanted.

"Mom..please... Don't let me marry him...please." Malika looked up at her pleading."you can do whatever you want to punish me...please don't do this to me."

Fatima scoffed. "We should leave you to be prostituting by giving your body to all the men in Morocco before you decided to settle down?"

Prostituting!

"Mom why didn't you even let me explain myself to you! I know I have sinned and I will regret that for the rest of my life! But please Mom here me out for ones!" Malika shouted, her lips trembling.

Her mother came close to her before slapping her across the face which Malika could feel the stinging pain and she knows a bruise will be left.

"How dare you shout at me! How disrespectful have you become! So because you have been have been sleeping with guys your eyes are now opened and you can talk back to me?!!"

Malika fell down from the bed crying for dare life. She hate her existence. Her parents would have been happy without her. She's just a shame to the society and she wished her life will be taken away today.

Why did you do this to me Adam?

Why did you choose to avenge me with that?

Why!why!! Why!!
