The group gathered at Grab & Bag, where Simon worked. Reyes looked to her left, noticing that Simon had been 'Employee of the Month' for months on end. They must be desperate for staff. She thought with a smirk, trying to lighten her nerves.

"A few months ago, my brother Timothy had an unfortunate incident." Simon began, stacking the counter with the materials they'd need for the plan. "He overdosed. Was dead for two minutes. But we got him back!"

Kate squeezed Reyes's hand; her grip as tight as her worried expression. Reyes felt the same fear gnawing at her but forced herself to stay calm.

Deena looked at Kate. "Kate, it's time for your close up."

With a nod, Kate laid out the pill assortment for Sam, who looked at them with a pale face. Reyes hoped Kate and Simon knew what they were doing, for Sam's sake.

Simon turned to Sam with a serious face. "You need to take these in order. Pile one takes the edge off. You're gonna feel like you're being fucked by a unicorn."

"Ew, Simon!" Reyes grimaced.

"Can you not?" He snapped, giving Reyes a look that silenced her with an embarrassed chuckle. "Anyway, pile two is gonna bring your core temp way down. You may feel slightly sick. Now, you need to take a five-minute interval between pile two and pile three. That's really important, okay? Pile three brings you down and out, so you got to take that 'take five' or it's all gonna go to shit!"

Kate held up an EpiPen. "How many do we have?"

Simon grinned. "Tons. Like a thousand."

Deena furrowed her brows. "EpiPens?"

"Epinephrine." Reyes clarified. "It's adrenaline. It's what'll bring Sam back if she, you know, goes."

Simon hoisted an EpiPen high. "Yeah, this is basically Jesus!"

After cutting her hand for the blood they'd need as bait, Sam smeared it on her clothes. Kate helped Reyes put blood on her own shirt, smirking weakly as she did. Reyes met her gaze and suddenly felt the reality of the moment settle in.
