"Okay, we're here." Deena's voice broke the silence as she parked in front of C. Berman's secluded house. She stepped out, and Reyes, Kate, and Josh followed, moving quickly to join her.

"What happens if she isn't here?" Kate asked, worry clouding her face. "What will we do then?"

Deena bit her lip. "I don't know, but we have to try."

Deena knocked, the sound echoing against the silent night. She knocked again, then began pounding on the door, a frantic rhythm that mirrored her desperation.

"Jesus, Deena." Reyes muttered, placing a hand on Deena's shoulder. "Give her a second."

But Deena didn't listen. "Josh, hand me that flashlight."

As Josh passed it over, Deena leaned down and lifted the mailbox lid, shining the beam inside, hoping for some sign of life.

"See anything?" Josh asked.

Deena shook her head. "No. Wait, let's check the windows."

The group moved cautiously along the side of the house, peering in through each dusty window. It was Kate who noticed it first. "Look, the TV's on. She's here."

Reyes's heart raced as they made their way to the back of the house. She tried the door, only to find it locked, the handle cold and unyielding.

"Hey guys." Deena whispered urgently. "The window's open."

They climbed through one by one, barely steadying themselves before a loud crash rang out from the kitchen. A figure lurched into view, and C. Berman, wild-eyed, brandished a knife.

"Don't move!" She yelled, eyes darting over each of them. "Why the hell would you come here?"

Deena raised her hands, her voice steady. "We need to show you something."

"Show me what?" C. Berman's gaze hardened, but before Deena could answer, another voice interrupted them.

"Hey, what's going on here?" The voice was calm, familiar, and as Reyes turned toward it, her eyes widened in disbelief.
