The radio crackled as Reyes tuned in, the static giving way to the somber voice of the announcer.

"All is no longer good in Sunnyvale. New evidence continues to surface implicating Union County Sheriff Nickolas Goode as the Sunnyvale Serial Killer. The Goode family maintains that they had no knowledge of Sheriff Goode's horrifying secret."

Reyes sat on the hood of her car, parked on the hill overlooking Shadyside. The autumn leaves around her were in full display, a vivid tapestry of reds, yellows, and oranges, a stark contrast to the shadows and blood that had painted the last few days. She felt the crisp air on her skin, filling her lungs with the kind of relief she'd almost forgotten. For the first time, she could breathe without fear, without the oppressive weight of the Goode family's dark legacy looming over Shadyside.

The news report continued. "Following the shocking events at Shadyside Mall, the town of Sunnyvale has been rocked by a string of unsettling incidents. Last week, the town experienced another tragedy as a local resident, Henry Albright, was struck in a freak car accident while leaving his home. Witnesses claim the truck seemed to come out of nowhere."

She shook her head. It wasn't surprising. For years, Shadyside had suffered under the weight of one tragedy after another. It was strange, almost cosmic, to think that Sunnyvale would feel even a fraction of the misery Shadyside had endured for centuries. She allowed herself to feel it, a fleeting satisfaction, before the unease set back in.

The Goode family may have denied their involvement, but Reyes knew the truth. And the darkness in Sunnyvale wasn't going away anytime soon.

Reyes thought about her friends and all they had been through. Kate had been checking in on Reyes all morning, making sure she was okay after everything they'd been through. Josh was researching the Goode family history, pulling up records and scouring for details about the rituals they'd uncovered. They all had their own way of coping, and they'd need time, maybe a lifetime, to process what they'd experienced.

Reyes took a steadying breath, grateful for her friends and the bond that had held them together through the horror. With one last look at the town below, she climbed into her car and started toward Kate's house.
