September 15, 1977.
If Vance Hopper had to describe Bruce Yamada in one word, it wouldn't be perfect, even if he came pretty close, actually, it would be extravagent. There was something about Bruce that Vance quite liked, even in the few two weeks they had known each other.
Going out to the theater with Bruce's sister was more than spectacular. Amy was as much a fan of the Ballet as he was, and Bruce could barely shut them up, either during the performance or on the way home.
Now, if he had to describe Bruce Yamada again with one word, it would stupid.
"Can you stop? How much money have you already spent?" Vance silently taunts Bruce, watching as he tries to beat his record at pinball.
Clearly money for someone like Bruce was not a problem, but Vance didn't want to see how this poor soul spent more than twenty coins trying to beat his record.
Apparently, dating Bruce was something that made everyone turn their attention in your direction, or maybe it was the fact that Vance was so calm in front of Bruce, watching him play pinball, in desperate need and desire to break his record. And he wasn't doing anything.
They even had an audience.
Bruce gives up when he's out of the balls and huffs.
"Someday I will." Bruce promises, pointing to Vance's face.
"This takes years of practice, keep dreaming."
Vance wasn't about to admit that he almost let out a 'sweetie' his teasing, but Bruce seems to have gotten the idea because he gives him a teasing and flirtatious look, raising his eyebrows and pursing his lips as he holds back a smile.
Vance rolls his eyes, taking a second to look at the crowd beginning to disperse. No one interesting, until Finney Blake and Robin Arellano walk through the door talking to each other about something that Vance doesn't get to hear.
Finney seems to realize someone was looking, so he looks away from Robin and makes eye contact with him for a moment. Finney doesn't look away immediately, looking at him with something that wasn't fear or shame. Vance brushes him off and tells Bruce it's time to go.
Bruce throws a bit of a tantrum, but accepts it and the two leave. Bruce takes charge of taking the reins of the conversation all the way to his house.
Two weeks isn't long enough to be that trusting with someone, but Bruce doesn't seem to know that because he treated Vance like they were lifelong friends. Or maybe Bruce never had any real friends and he didn't know how to behave. Actually, Vance didn't have either, so he wasn't one to judge.
Vance isn't surprised when Bruce turns on the radio as soon as they get to his house.
"You want to dance?" Bruce bows slightly and extends his hand.
"That's so corny and pathetic." Vance snorts and takes his hand.
Dancing to heavy metal while holding someone's hand and moving like classical music wasn't exactly optional, but Vance has never cared and he won't start now.
The two end up on the floor, laughing and holding their stomachs.
"So hilarious!" exclaims Bruce, throwing up his arms. "I've never had so much fun dancing."
"Because you've never done it with me." Vance winks at him, but he can't keep up his flirtatious facade, because he starts laughing at the blush on Bruce's face.
Bruce was pretty transparent and was cute.
"I have a match in a few days, do you want to go?" Bruce manages to calm down from his fit of laughter, but his face was still quite red.
