September 1, 1977. 6:56 PM.

Vance has no idea why he was leaning against the wall of the movie billboard, he just knew that he was there, waiting for someone who might not even have intended to go. Maybe Bruce was hiding somewhere laughing with his friends at him.

"You arrived early."

Vance looks up from the ground and finds the radiant smile of Bruce Yamada, with his hands in his pockets. Vance won't admit that he was excited and relieved that Bruce did show up.

"You arrived late." Vance replies.

Bruce laughs, and Vance can only follow him inside.

Choosing the film was not that difficult, they had a similar taste in everything and Vance liked that. They chose The Black Pearl and Vance went to buy some popcorn while Bruce bought the tickets.

As Vance waits in line, tapping his foot, he can only think about how similar this was to a date. He's never actually dated before, but Bruce probably has.

Vance hates to be the inexperienced part, but he'll make an exception. As long as he doesn't ruin their date with a guy he barely knows in life, then he'll be fine.

They're inside the movie theater faster than Vance can realize, but the movie wasn't going to start anytime soon, the theater was nearly empty.

"Tell me Vance, do you have siblings?" Bruce asks, resting his arms on the back of the front seat.

"No. My dad has been in prison for as long as I can remember and my mom hasn't tried to date another man." Vance brushes it off completely and shrugs.

"Oh ," Bruce grins toothily. "I have a younger sister. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?"

"Vanilla."

"I don't see you as the type of person who would like vanilla. Is it because of your hair? I like it, by the way. Can I touch it?"

Vance now has two new perspectives. Bruce seems to be playing twenty questions and doesn't know how to shut up. Still, it's not like Vance wanted him to shut up. Bruce was good entertainment until the movie starts.

"I have two basic rules; my hair and my pinball score don't touch."

Despite the clear threat, Bruce, who had known him for a few hours and knew his background very well, had decided to touch his hair without any problem.

Vance would have ripped he hand off if the trailers for upcoming movies hadn't started. Bruce eats popcorn with the same hand that had probably ruined his perfect curls.

Throughout the movie, Bruce comments absolutely everything he could and Vance wonders why came. Just because Bruce is cute, he didn't mean he should accept going to the movies. They barely knew each other and Bruce has already broken his patience three times! Why was this boy still alive?
