Everything was now crystal clear—he was played. Som thought bitterly at how the Dragon Prince pulled him into this mess and got him involved without his knowledge. How foolish! And he was taken in by his own desire to change the narrative of the story.
If that was the case, then Kali was still the protagonist of Legion War. Well then, what would it mean for his role?
Seisyl stepped in to explain, taking advantage of his silence, "Magnus holds the proof of Jarl Vegard's betrayal that it was him who murdered Sigurd's father and forcefully elected himself to the throne. And because Sigurd's too young to take over, he went in and became the leader of the clan. Magnus also found out that he was planning to have Sigurd assassinated and put the blame on Kali. Apparently, Jarl Vegard wanted a spectacle that could result in a war, forcing King Kyro to make a move first so that he could get the support of the other races."
"It's like hitting two birds with one stone," Saanvi couldn't help but comment upon hearing this.
"Precisely."
"That's one very ambitious plan," Som said to them.
"Ambitious, yes," Seisyl agreed. "But not impossible. If not for Magnus finding out the truth about Sigurd's father, we would've not been prepared for what was coming. We have always doubted Vegard's character, but even I didn't think he would resort to this kind of strategy. He was..."
"...he was a good uncle," Sigurd smiled at Seisyl since the latter choked on his words. He put a hand on his envoy, patting him softly like he was trying to soothe him.
Som daresay it looks romantic, and he fought the urge for his face not to make a single reaction. Fuck this! He was even reminded of how Kali caressed his cheek earlier, and that was when his eyes darted to that assistant, trying to make himself smaller. Fucking Darren Pike!
Marko raised a hand, "Er, so...you asked for King Kyro's assistance?"
Sigurd nodded, "Yes. Seisyl tried to persuade the rest of the clan to send him instead as an envoy at the Arcane Academy, knowing that Kali was sent by King Kyro as their envoy. This made it difficult for my uncle to plan their next move. If he had me killed within our borders, it might arouse suspicion, given that I'm a month away from taking over the throne."
"However, we can't make a move to the person that Vegard is working with," King Kyro spoke. "We only retrieve information that he works at the Arcane Academy and has connections to the goblins—those black-clothed beings you and your friends fought earlier."
It was at this point that Som felt the need to refute this, "No! I saw a Druid among them. One of them took off the mask, and I saw that it was a Druid!"
Sri quickly turned to Som in astonishment, "That's not possible! A Druid can't be working with a goblin. We cultivated our magic through nature, and the light of the universe, and goblins are—"
"I know what I saw," there was an authority with the way Som spoke that Sri was taken aback. "You can ask Kali. YOU, say something!"
The lack of respect and the absence of honorifics made everyone in the room horrified except maybe King Kyro and Kali. The Dragon Prince stepped closer, wearing a calm façade despite a deep sigh.
"Som's right," he spoke softly. "One of them is a Druid."
"That..." Sri was speechless, and his head was filled with questions.
To Som's discomfort, he witnessed the Dragon King comforting his brother by brushing a hand on his shoulder. It was like watching an opera right now, where the male lead was reassuring his lover that everything would be alright.
