7:00am.I get a knock at my front door and stumble down the hallway, sandwich in hand and a new variation of bright tights clinging to my legs.
Today it was zebra print, less colourful then usual but it had to match the black and white baseball shirt I was begrudgingly wearing today. It bought too much attention, I already had enough of that nowadays. However despite how strange it felt to be acknowledged walking down Hawkins High corridors, at least it meant one thing..
The door swings open to him, leaning against the wall, sunglasses shimmering and hair elegantly swooped back like usual.
... I could proudly proclaim that Steve Harrington was my boyfriend.
"You bought lunch?" He glances down surprised at the cling film wrapped sandwich in my hand, i smirk at him and shove it into his chest, "it's not mine."
There's a flicker of emotion in his eyes, a sort of acceptance and appreciation before he smiles, a reaction I'd never get tired of witnessing. I'd make him a million sandwiches just to see him smile.
I skip past him down the steps of my doorway towards his car, arms swinging happily as I smirk and hum to myself proudly, as if I'd won a game. "Ruby, I told you! You don't need to do that!" He's laughing despite his protests, jogging until he stands in front of me, blocking my path.
"What will you eat?"
His eyes seem to soften, brows slightly perked up and cheeks burning a little more pink than before and I answer, pointing a finger on his chest, "you have work, I have a school cafeteria."
The popular boy rolls his eyes and clings to his chest dramatically, "Ruby White! You make it hard not to fall for you."
Fall for me.
We hadn't said anything like that before. Id wanted to scream my love from the rooftops, to doodle his name in my notebooks and to document my feelings in my diary, (the last two I had actually done a couple times,) but we hadn't said it yet.I didn't want to scare him away.
To ruin what was already so good.We stand there for a moment as if he realises what he's inferred and his cheeks shift to a more crimson shade now, the colour dancing itself across his whole face, red nose and all.
He begins to stutter something out but there's a loud beep from the car in front of us, "COME ON LOSERS WE'RE GONNA BE LATE!"
Robin Buckley, always ruining a moment.
We stumble into the car after running down the drive, I laugh as Robin jumps from the passenger seat over into the back, arms flaying as she does so.It's never a peaceful drive to school, but that's why I like it.
"Does my hair look okay- I feel like it doesn't look okay? Do I need to fluff it more- god I definitely need to fluff it more!""Robin! You look great!" I chuckle out, eyes smiling brightly at my best friend.
She grimaces and stretches her face, "I woke up looking like a total corpse!"Steve snorts from the steering wheel, "you're worried about a basketball pep rally? You? You expect us to believe that?" He rolls his eyes, "come on Robin.."
"So?" She rolls her eyes right back at him, leaning over and flicking him on the back of his neck from the back seat, "can't I be interested in sports?"
"If you were interested in sports you wouldn't be in band." I gasp, faking offence and slap his arm lightly, he just gives me a small, soft smile.
"Anyways I'm not buying it, this is about Vicky."
