Two weeks laterThird person POV
The windows are down and music blaring as Steve and Robin drive through town to the family video store, a sense of panic rushing through the popular boy as he wonders just how he's going to get this job. He doesn't know movies at all.
Only thing he's seen enough times is risky business, but that's only cause the old movie theatre never stops playing it.He was so nervous to succeed he'd sprayed like 50 cans of his Farrah Fawcett spray and now smelt very strongly of hair product. Robin had even coughed when she entered the car.
Ruby had said he could do it though, she'd told him he could do anything actually. But this was an interview for a job he really needed since his last one was recked by a giant gross monster.
Defeating that thing? Easy.
The real world? Terrifying. They get out of the car and Steve's keys jingle slightly as he hops out, "you put your mum down as a reference?" Robin judges, "why not? she's like super well respected."
"Yeh like Kieth's gonna care about that," the girl mumbles under her breath swinging on a pole outside the shop before walking through the door, "you're such a dingus Steve."
He follows her to the counter and Keith's greeting them at the counter with a sneer, "you're who I'm interviewing?"
Robin smiles, stepping in front of Steve slightly as if hiding him would help at all. She makes the mental decision that she'll do all the talking. "Yup! And here right on time. Early! Actually.." she points out, hoping to earn them some extra points.
"Yeah.. ok." The man couldn't care less, his voice is drowsy and his eyes are shutting as they speak. The brunette girl leans forward on the desk, resilience flooding her anatomy. He grabs their cv's and starts looking over them and rolling his eyes, she needs to keep him on track, "just so you know we weren't fired from our last jobs! The mall burnt down. Killed like.. a bunch of people."
Steve flinches at that."Thanks for sharing. Didn't know." He slams the paper on the counter and snaps his fingers at Robin, "three favourite movies go!"
As Robin names them Steve can't help but twitch in confusion, he knows none of these.
"You!" Kieth turns his attention to Steve, eyes suddenly ripe with annoyance, "go!"The boy is thrown off at the sudden acknowledgment, "three favourite movies?"
"Did I stutter?"
Robin can't help but grimace, this is gonna take a lot more work then she thought."Uh.. animal house for sure." The girl besides him sighs. Oh god.
Steve shrinks into himself, he can't let her down, he can't let Ruby down, he needs this job.
He thinks of her and words sprout out, remembering the films Ruby would talk about, "Star Wars.""A new hope?"
"A new what now?"
"Which Star Wars Harrington?" He didn't know the man behind the counter very well, but he knew he clearly had an issue with him.
Flustered he tried to answer, "the one with the teddy bears duh!"
Yeah. Ruby liked that one.Robin just slams her head.
He tries once more, the found memories of back to the future coming to mind but Kieth simply scoffs.
"Robin you start Monday." He turns his attention back to Steve, "you start never."Shit. He'd failed.
But he needed this. In the last two weeks him and Ruby had hung out almost every day, together or sometimes with Robin. He'd held her when she remembered Miss Cook, he made her coffee in the mornings, he burnt the toast slightly because he knew that's how she liked it.
But he hadn't taken her on that date yet. He'd promised. And without a job and money.. he couldn't keep that promise.
