Chapter 19: A Darkness Stained with Blood

"You caught onto what?!" Shouted Gnash in his confusion as he put more food into his mouth.

Izuku gave out a small nervous chuckle while Impmon ate next to him. "I, uh, noticed his tunnel vision."

Angel then bounced in her seat with her mouth full and hand raised. "Oh, oh!" She then swallowed and smiled. "So you noticed how easily he could be distracted and used it to lure him into a trap!"

Makarel then yelled in surprise. "Dang kid! I would have just gone up and hit him real hard."

Gnash then rubbed the side of his head where a bandage was put to help heal a bruise. "See, now that's what would have made you helpful in pinning him down, not beating him." He then pointed at Izuku with a small grin. "Seriously though, if you keep using your head like that with your quirk you could turn out to be a real monster."

Izuku was surprised by the compliment. "T-thanks! It's nice to know you think that."

Angel then pulled up her phone with a grin. "Oh, like usual he doesn't really have to think." It was a news report about how Gang Orca had stopped a dangerous villain with the help of a first-year from UA.

This causes Izuku to pail in a realization. This was different from the Sports Festival, this was a kind of recognition he wasn't supposed to get yet.

Impmon on the other hand was ecstatic. The attention was sure to show the world just how awesome they all wore. "Thash aweshome!"

Izuku sighed seeing the mess Impmon was making by speaking with his mouth full. He quickly pulls out a napkin and starts to forcefully clean him. "Impmon, learn some manners!"

Gnash laughs at the sight. "Even with all that power it's good to know you've got some limits!"

Makarel agreed with that with a shorter laugh. "You said it! With each generation that passes the more, it feels like you kids are cheating."

Gnash then realized what Angel had said. "Wait, what was that about me thinking?"

"So aren't you excited to see how popular you're gonna get?" Angel asked quickly dodging Gnash's question.

Izuku then pulled away from the struggling Impmon now looking nervous. "Oh, well I'm not really sure. I feel excited but also pretty scared." Izuku looked at the floor now in thought. "Like, what if the people around me start to expect more and more? What if I get too high and then start letting people down? Or what if they start seeing me as just my quirk?" Anxieties began to creep into his mind as the worries about how people used to treat him. To them, he wasn't a person who made his own achievements. He was just born the luckiest kid around.

A sharp pain was then sent through the back of Izuku's head as Gnash punched him back to reality. When Izuku looked up in pain at the sidekick Gnash was facing up with his eyes closed. "Geez kid, like the world wasn't putting enough pressure on you already. Then you go and make thing's harder on yourself." Gnash then opened his eyes and looked down at the intern. His look was one of experience like he had been where Izuku was now. Feeling all the anxieties and insecurities take hold. "Listen, King. You can't expect people to always react the way you want them to. All we can do is do the best we can to save everyone we can. If anyone judges us for that then we'll save them too if we have to!" He then smiled wide. "Besides you are lucky. Lucky enough to have people who can push with you."

Izuku then looked down at the grinning Impmon and then gave his own smile. It was true. Maybe it was high time he let go of what other people thought of him. Still, whenever he came to that conclusion it always seemed more difficult than it sounded. No, maybe those were insecurities too. And if that's true then he really can find a way to push through. the idea made his smile genuine. "Thank you, Gnash."
