The Prince's Mate

(Vanessa's POV)

I woke up around 7:30. Most the days I normally wake up early, since I have a lot to do in threw out the day. I got up and went into my closet. I decided on a purple V-neck shirt and shorts. It would have looked better with my purple eyes, but I didn't want to take off the glamour. I also didn't want anybody else seeing my really eye color. I loved them, but I always stood out in a crowd with them. I grabbed it and went to take a shower.

I saw Emily walked in with a tray that had a mug of coffee and a few chocolate chip croissants, my favorite. She set them done on the night stand and turned to me, as I walked out of the bathroom.

"Good morning miss, I hope you had a good sleep." she said with a smile on her face

"Vanessa, not miss and I had a good nights rest. If I'm correct I will need it for the day I have a head." I told her walking to the night stand to get a croissant

"I have a question for you who sits to the right of the king in the conference room?" I asked her

"Well, that probably would be the prince." she said

The prince, so that was him. It has been years since I have seen him. I remembered the last time, I was here I helped him study. "Thanks, also can you point me in the direction of the kings office?" I said walking to the door

"Go to the main entrance, turn left, go up those flight of stairs, stop on the second floor, turn right, and the third door on the right is his office." she told me fixing up the bed

"Thank you," I said walking out the door heading to get Bethany and Calvin, before going to the kings office. I made it there and found Bethany braiding her hair and Calvin talking on the phone.

"You guys ready to go?" I said and they looked up at me

"Sure" they both said at the same time. I walked out the door and headed to the kings office. I knocked on the door and went in.

"Vanessa, long time no see. I hope you are feeling better." he said standing up and pulling me into a hug, which surprised me.

"Hello, your majesty." I said

"None of that majesty stuff, please just call me David like you use to." he said with a smile on his face

"Okay David, "which got me a smile from him, "I can't believe you even remember me"

"I don't know how I wouldn't, when I told Eliza she was so happy you and your cousin are like the daughters she never had. You two should have come and visited more often. " he said

"I know but we have been pretty busy." I said feeling bad we never visited but I was going to change that

"So you know the rules of most of the kingdoms." he said

"Yes," I responded. I was okay when it came to the knowledge but the major concepts I understood and passing by the castle library, never hurts.

"I also believe you know about the mate clause." he said

"Yes, it says that the future king must have a mate to rule by his side," I said. So that was what this is about. That great mate clause, it literally read 'the eldest son must have his mate in order to have the throne, if not it is passed down to the next heir on his 21st birthday who has their mate'. I always thought that clause was stupid, but it was their culture and I'm not here to judge.

"And that is why your here. When Jason was born we took him to a seer. She said that Jason's mate will be powerful, but never specified what type of species she would be." he said

"So, that's why you called the council. You wanted someone to get the eligible powerful girls in every kingdom to come to the ball to see if one of them is his mate." I said and he just nodded

"Yes, exactly" he said

"Well, it doesn't seem like a difficult task but mating with a different species works differently. Like wolfs can sense them as long as they are in a certain distance, but angels have to touch each other in order to be certain. That also goes for vampires but they can sense their mate if they are in the same room." I explained

"So he would need to read a little of these books within a week or so" I said handing him a piece of paper

"Oh and also this is not a guarantee that he will find his mate by the way" I added as I left the room

"So I'm going to go train a bit talk to you guys later" I said walking in the direction in which I hoped was the training area

I ended back into main entrance and spotted a person. "Excuse me, can you tell me where the training room would be?"

"Sure, just turn down that hall way and it's the last door on the left." he said

"Thanks" I said turning to leave

"By the way I'm Cody" he said flirtatiously

"And I'm not interested" I said walking away and I could hear him chuckle

I reached the training area and it was empty. So I decided to start with the knife throwing since I haven't done that in a while. I was throwing one when I sensed a presence in the shadows. I thought who could it be. I acted like I didn't and when I went to throw my next I positioned my self to throw directly behind me. Where I sensed the presence. I threw it and I heard a sharp intake of breath.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I have been busy the last couple of days and just got time now to update. Hope you enjoyed. Also, who do you think was lurking in the shadows?
