Chapter 30

Jennie's POV

We are going back to Korea tonight but I woke up with a  fever, so instead of going around Thailand, together with Lisa and Quentin for the rest of the time we were here, I chose to rest.

Lisa called to let me know that they were on the way home but I was really hungry so I went to the kitchen to find something to eat.

Their house is very big and I feel tired walking to the kitchen and I got even weaker when I saw Lisa's father there who I was avoiding.

I wanted to step back because I was so nervous but I forced myself to be brave because he already saw me. I just ignored his presence and did my thing.

Even though I'm on my back, I felt that he was looking at me that makes me feel uncomfortable, as if I was going to pass out, so I decided to leave before I  fell down here in the kitchen.

"Jennie" I slowly walked out of the kitchen but stopped when he called my name.

Even though I don't like the way he treats me, I'm not rude enough not to face him, so I clenched my fist to pull out courage not to cry in front of him.

"relax, I just want to talk to you, sit down first." I gave him a nervous smile and sat right across from him.

He pushed the plate with  a sandwich in front of me. I didn't want to take it but I felt like I was going to pass out because of my nervousness and hunger so I took it and took a big bite.

I was surprised by the taste, it's really delicious so I took another bite.

" did you like the taste?" He asked calmly, it was so delicious that I nodded immediately.

"I'm the one who made that sandwich, that was lisa's mom's favorite, I'm a chef." he said while sipping the coffee he was holding.

I was shocked because I thought it was prepared by their maid. 

I didn't know that Lisa's dad was a chef she never talked about her dad and because I have a trust issue, I stopped biting again wondering if it has been poisoned.

"don't worry it's not poisonous." He chuckled I blushed in embarrassment because he read what was on my mind.

"My wife told me the reason why you and Lisa broke up before." I looked at him, I didn't expect that for the first time I saw his smile.

"I'm not really against your relationship with Lisa, in fact I'm happy for her. " I don't know if I should believe him or not.

I looked at him, he looked so calm. I didn't speak because I was still nervous.

"I just want to test how you will react when you hear the painful words that you will hear from people when they find out that you are Lisa's wife. To be honest I would  like to try if you can fight for her if I oppose your relationship but I don't want to add Lisa's anger towards me.

It's hard to believe but I love her, Jennie . I was very strict with her when she was young because I wanted her to be better and strong to face the cruel world especially with the condition she has . I didn't realize that she was already  filled with anger towards me. It was  too late when I felt that my strictness had gone too far, that I forgot that she was just a kid and that often to make mistakes.

I tried to make up for my shortcomings but I'm ashamed and afraid at the same time that she might spit in my face how useless a father I am." he stopped himself from crying while I was surprised by the revelation I heard.

"I'm sorry for what I said to you, Jennie. I've proven that you're a very good woman and you don't deserve to be treated like that, even though I didn't treat you right, you still respect me.

I hope this time, you will try harder to fight for Lisa. I see how much she loves you, she deserves a woman who can be her and fight for her no matter what life throws.  I know it's you, Jennie. I haven't been a good father to her, but I don't want anything else for her but her happiness. Please take good care of her."  He became emotional so I approached and hugged him , I smiled when he hugged me back.

"I will do my best to hold on to our relationship sir, don't worry I will take care of your daughter." I mumbled.

" Come on, you're my daughter-in-law already it would be nice if you called me dad."

After that serious talk, our conversation became light and I noticed that Lisa's father was a very pleasant person. He told me how much he loved Lisa's mom while making  a delicious sandwich again for me  because I was very hungry.

We were both laughing in the kitchen because he has many stories that make me laugh so much, when Lisa suddenly came with a frown and I saw the sadness in her father's eyes.

I approached  and I hugged her around her waist, she kissed me on the forehead. "Is everything ok here?"  She sounded worried

"yup, you didn't tell me that your dad is a chef, he prepared me a delicious sandwich while he was telling  some silly story ." Lisa couldn't believe what I said, and she gave me a questioning look.

I smiled genuinely and took the sandwich from my plate and put it in her mouth.

I smiled when she took a small bite.     " delicious right?". She nodded.

"Alright Jennie, I'm leaving thank you for the wonderful conversation, have a safe flight later, lisa.

Jennie please take care of them." Lisa's father said and before she left, I hugged him again.

"thank you dad please take good care of yourself too." I said that surprised Lisa.

"I will." he replied before walking out of the kitchen but before he left Lisa called him.

he turned to us." thank you dad. ammm c-can i hug you too?" Lisa asked shyly .

her father smiled and opened his arms to welcome Lisa, who immediately ran to hug her father.

They both became emotional until they broke the hug no words came out from each other but they both kept smiling . When lisa's dad left, Lisa  came and kissed me on the lips before she hugged me i know she is happy.

Before we left , everything went well even though Lisa and her dad, were a bit awkward, somehow their relationship made progress and what I didn't expect was the sudden closeness of Quentin to his grandfather when she found out that he apologized to me.

To our surprise he gave our daughter a big amount of money that even Lisa, was against but he forced to give it to  Quentin.

According to him, the day will come when Quentin, will earn more than what he earns and she won't need money from them anymore, so it's better that they give it to her now while her income is not too big yet.

I am happy for Quentin, not because of the material things she received from her grandparents but because of the feeling that she has loving grandparents and there are many people who genuinely love her.
