CHAPTER FOUR: EXPERIMENT

MAGGIE LIKED TO GO DANCING.

Besides their trips to Coney Island, Bucky used to take her out dancing and get themselves dinner. It was their favorite thing to do together, dancing the night away in each other's arms. Especially when they played their song. There was nothing like it.

Bucky took Maggie to the place they usually went, called the "Fell Rose." An unusual name for a pub, but the atmosphere and lighting made it a popular place for young couples. It was only a couple blocks from Maggie's house, so the walk back wasn't long.

"Come on, doll! Dance with me," Bucky said, smiling as he held out his hand.

"You know I still am not the best dancer," Maggie laughed, taking his hand.

"And that is why you have me."

Bucky gave a wink and continued to lead her to the dance floor. In the crowd of people, they managed to find a spot. The first couple of songs were more upbeat, and Maggie did her best to catch up. Soon enough, a slower song began to play and the brunette immediately recognized it. It was "It's Been A Long Long Time," by Kitty Kallen. It was Maggie and Bucky's song.

Maggie smiled from the melody and began to slow dance with Bucky. Her left hand rested on his shoulder while his respectively rested on her waist. The fingers of their right hands interlocked, bodies almost pressed together as they danced. They looked into each others eyes, holding smiles that only belonged to those in love.

"This is the last time we'll be out dancing for awhile," Maggie remembered. "I'm going to miss this."

"Me too," Bucky agreed softly. "I'm going to miss you like this. In my arms. Getting to see your smile.

"I wish you didn't have to go."

"I know, doll. But I won't be forever," he tried to assure. "Once the war is over, I promise I will come back."

"You know you can't something like that. Countless men have died in war and I..."

Tears formed in their eyes and they stopped dancing. Maggie walked away, making her way to the back exit. She stormed into the back alley and Bucky followed behind her. Tears streamed down her face as Bucky made her look at him. He held her face in his hands, bearing a sad expression.

"Hey," Bucky whispered, wiping her tears. "Don't cry, Maggie. You're about to make cry too."

"I can't bare the thought of losing you, J," Maggie sniffled, trying to keep herself together. "If you don't come back..."

"Of course I'm going to come back," Bucky cut her off. "I may be fighting for our country, but I'm fighting for you. I'm fighting to come back home to you. And when I do come back, it'll be you and me." He assured before continuing. "And until then, I have something to give you."

He paused, trying to pull something out of his military coat. In his hand appeared a small black box, making Maggie's eyes widen in shock.

"I was hoping to do it somewhere better than this. But better now than later," Bucky started.

He got on one knee, making Maggie cover her mouth in shock. Bucky held her left hand in his, with his other hand holding the ring box. The ring was made of real silver with three small times encrusted into it.
