TWENTY-FOUR

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR: ASSEMBLED

THE BATTLE FOR NEW YORK HAD BEGUN.

Steve ordered the team to suit and stop Loki from opening the portal. Clint Barton was now an ally, freed from Loki's mind control. Steve, Natasha, and Clint took a quinjet head for New York while Tony went to Stark Tower where Loki was. The portal had opened and the the Chitauri army came from the sky, causing the people of New York to runaway in panic. Tony was off to take care of the army while the quinjet arrived.

Maggie decided to go ahead of her teammates in the quinjet, a little behind Tony. She only reached Stark Tower a couple moments later as the Chitauris kept coming out of the portal. She lightly landed on the balcony, seeing Loki change into his Asgardian royal clothes and watching as the Chitauri destroyed buildings. Maggie only scoffed, clapping sarcastically as it got Loki's attention.

"Well, you did it. You opened a portal and set lose an alien army to fight your battle for you," Maggie said, pacing around nonchalantly. "I guess sanity and humanity is the price to pay for power."

"Can't stay away from me can you? It is not too late," Loki asked with a smirk. "Join me, Maggie. I can teach you to be so much more. I can give you powers beyond your imagination."

"Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. You are the perfect reason why Earth has no need for gods like you," Maggie answered, rejecting any thought of joining him. "You think just because you're a more powerful being gives you the right to rule over them? You're no better than Hydra. Beings like you have no right to take away their freedoms, which is why I will stop you or die trying."

Maggie pointed her sword towards Loki, challenging to fight him. That's when Thor and his hammer Mjölnir met the balcony floor behind Maggie.

"Loki! Turn off the Tesseract or I'll destroy it," Thor demanded.

"You can't. There is no stopping it, there is only the war," Loki said, pointing his scepter at Maggie and Thor.

"So be it. Lady Maggie, get ready to fight."

"Let's get the party started!" Maggie said getting in her fighting stance.

Loki jumped down and lunged with his scepter and Maggie jumped out of the way, dodging him just in time. The beam of his scepter reflected off both Maggie's sword and Mjölnir as they both made swings. If Loki attacked Maggie, Thor would attack him and Maggie did the same when Loki did the same to Thor. The stick of Loki's scepter clashed with Maggie's sword as he went to attack her once more.

Only once did Maggie get hit by a blue beam and it sent her flying, landing on her back almost crashing into a glass window. As Thor fought off Loki, the beam that hit Maggie was in her hand. When she closed her hand into a fist, her body began to absorb the power as Thor held Mjölnir at Loki's throat while the scepter was at his.

"Look at this! Look around you! You think the madness will end with your rule?!" Thor asked, making Loki looked at the destruction below them.

"It's too late. It's too late to stop it," Loki said, small remorse in his voice.

"No. We can together."

Loki then stabbed Thor in the side with one of his knives. Thor dropped Mjölnir, grabbing his side.

"Sentiment," Loki said softly.

The next moment, Loki groaned as he was hit by both a blue beam and green telekinetic energy. It knocked him to the floor, the scepter sliding away from him. Thor got the knife out of his side and stood over Loki on the floor. Then Loki rolled over and fell off the Stark Tower, climbing onto one of the Chitauri chariots and destroying the city. Maggie walked towards Thor, able to walk again.
