CHAPTER TWENTY: THE GLASS CELL

WHEN LOKI WAS BROUGHT TO THE HELICARRIER THAT NIGHT, FURY PUT HIM IN A GLASS CELL THAT CLOSED SHUT.

Maggie stood behind Natasha in the conference room, surrounded by the others. They watched and listen to Fury speak to Loki on a small screen in front of Natasha. Seeing him made Maggie's shoulders tense, while Thor stood behind her, another factor.

"In case it wasn't clear, you try to escape, you so much as scratch that glass," Fury started, pressing a button which opened a huge hole in the middle of Loki's cell. "Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. You know how that works?" He pointed at Loki, "ant," and then at the red button, "boot."

Loki let out a small laugh, "It's an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me."

"Built for something a lot bigger than you."

"Oh, I've heard."

Loki looked into the camera, knowing Maggie, Banner, and the rest of them were watching the interrogation. The agent could remember when his eyes first flashed in her mind, when she was in her astral body.

"The mindless beast, makes play to be the man," Loki said, making Coulson put his hands on Maggie's shoulders protectively. "How desperate are you? You call on these lost creatures to defend you."

"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war," Fury replied. "You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace and you kill because it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did."

"Ooh. It burns you to come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is."

"Yeah, well, you let me know if Real Power wants a magazine or something."

"I want the witch," Loki said, making Fury turn backs towards the prisoner. "

The whole room was silent. Maggie's expression hardened while panic spread through her veins when everyone's eyes were on her. The room was filled with a thick tension and she hated that she was being watched. Why was he so fascinated by her? Just because she didn't fall under his mind control like Selvig and Barton. She didn't even know how she didn't, her body felt like it was on fire when she absorbed that small amount of power from Loki's scepter.

"What was her name again?" Loki asked, faking ignorance. "Ah, the Prodigy. She's an intriguing one, yes."

Maggie could see Steve's hands twitch as he held a stoic expression. She should've been surprised he knew what she used to be called, but she honestly wasn't. Barton had probably shown the trickster god her SHIELD file.

"Agent Barnes will be accompanying Agent Coulson or Agent Romanoff. You will not be seeing her."

"Of course I will," Loki said smirking assuring. "She's quite an interesting little witch. She could be more with the proper guidance. Did you make one of these cages for her, I wonder?"

The thought of Fury making one of those cells for Maggie made her fists clench. Surely Fury knew that she would never use her magic to hurt others. She always used her powers for good and was always in control. Hurting the ones who trusted her and being all alone were Maggie's greatest fears.

"And why do have such a fascination for Agent Barnes?" Fury asked, ignoring Loki's question.

"My fascination is beyond what your simple human mind can comprehend," Loki said in amusement. "If you want the answers you're looking for, she will come to me."
