CHAPTER SIXTEEN: TEAM UP

MAGGIE, STEVE AND BRUCE FOLLOWED NATASHA INTO THE MAIN COMMAND CENTER OF THE HELICARRIER.

It was a room full of computers, shield agents behind each one. Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD, stood in the middle, overseeing the room and the large window on the other side of the command center. He turned around with his eye patch on, seeing Maggie stand beside Banner as they both felt anxious. The agent patted Bruce's shoulder in comfort, hoping to put him a little more at ease.

"Gentlemen...and lady," Fury greeted.

Steve walked walked beside Maggie and pulled $10 out of his wallet and handed it to her. The agent smirked in amusement and slide the $10 into her pocket before as Fury made his way to her and Banner.

"Doctor, thank you for coming," Fury said to Banner.

"Thanks for asking nicely," Banner replied nervously, shaking Fury's hand. "So, uh...how long am I staying?"

"Once we get our hands on the Tesseract, you are in the clear," he answered, walking past Bruce and Maggie.

"And where are you with that?" Maggie asked for her and Bruce, her hands on her hips.

Furry then pointed at Coulson and let him explain to the group.

"We're sweeping every wirelessly accessible camera on the planet. Cell phones, laptops. If it's connected to a satellite, it's eyes and ears for us," Coulson said.

"That's not gonna find them in time," Natasha said.

The redhead looked at a picture on screen, a picture of Clint Barton was on the monitor. Clint had been compromised since Loki had him under mind control. Maggie's face hardened, deter-mined to save her co-worker. She could tell Natasha was quietly concerned, since her and Clint were partners.

"You have to narrow the field," Bruce said. "How many spectrometers do you have access to?"

"How many are there?" Maggie asked, sitting down in one of the leather chairs.

"Call every lab you know, tell them to put the spectrometers on the roof and calibrate them gamma rays. I'll rough out a tracking algorithm based on cluster recognition. At least we could rule out a few places. Do you have somewhere for me to work?"

"Agent Romanoff, would you show Dr Banner to his laboratory, please," Fury said.

Natasha nodded, imprisoning for Bruce to follow her out of the command center. Maggie let out a small huff, smirking as Natasha and Banner left the room. She closed her eyes and blocked out all the noises in the room, falling into a deep meditation to build up her power for the coming battle. Steve watched the woman, tilting his head with a raised eyebrow, wondering what she was doing.

"She's in a state of deep meditation," Coulson said quietly, answering Steve's expression. "Helps build up and channel her powers before a fight."

"How do you know that? I never seen her do that before," Steve asked confused.

"When Loki arrived, he tried to mind control her with his scepter. However, she was able to absorb a fragment of the stones power," he explained.

"So that explains why her hair is suddenly green and she's floating off the ground?"

"Pretty much."

"She seems...different. Ever since we both woke up in this time, she's been very closed off and guarded," Steve said, giving a small frown.

"We'll, she watched her husband fall from a train and yet she's here and he's not," Coulson suggested. "Who knows how she's been feeling all this time."
