TWENTY-THREE

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: DIVIDED

WHEN MAGGIE CAME TO, SHE HISSED IN PAIN AND USED THE WALL TO SLOWLY GET UP.

The lab was completed destroyed from the explosion. Her ears were ringing, hearing Steve's voice as he held her up. Panic was spread all over Steve's face when he checked Maggie's face. She felt something wet on the side of her head and touched it before seeing what it was. There was blood on her fingertips and realized what was happening around her.

"Everything's going to be okay, Maggie," Steve said, trying to calm himself. "The Helicarrier's being attacked. I need you to stay here and stay hidden, you're too injured to fight right now. Okay."

Maggie only gave an assuring nod, unable to speak at the moment. She leaned onto the wall as Steve ran out of the destroyed lab. Steve was gonna get upset later because Maggie wasn't going to hide and do nothing. She needed to stop Loki from taking the scepter. Gaining her strength to walk she left the lab, wobbling a little. when her energy was back, she ran towards Loki's cell. Thor was right outside about to go in when he saw Maggie running towards him.

"Lady Maggie, you are injured?" Thor said, giving Maggie support when she almost fell in front of him.

"I'm fine, just hit my head a little too hard," Maggie said, finally able to speak. "I'm able to fight. We need to stop Loki from escaping."

The moment Thor entered, the sliding door to Loki's cell opened. Maggie leaned against the wall when Thor went running towards him.

"No!" Thor yelled before lunging towards Loki.

Thor went through Loki, landing in the glass cell before Loki closed Thor inside. The god of thunder use Mjölnir to break the glass making a small crack as Loki stood in front of the cell control panel. Loki opened the lid to a red button, smirking before his hand ghosted over it.

"The humans think us immortal. Should we test that?" Loki asked Thor.

"Move away please," Coulson said pointing a gun at Loki, making Loki move away. "You like this? We started working on the prototype after you sent the destroyer. Even I don't know what it does. Do you want to find out?"

What happened next played in slowly motion for Maggie. Loki appeared behind Coulson and pierced his scepter through his suit and skin.

"NOOOO!" Both Maggie and Thor yelled as Agent Coulson leaned again the wall. However, Maggie's yell echoed throughout the room, full of pain.

Coulson slumped down the wall, his breathing quickening as Loki pressed a button sending Thor out of the ship. Loki made his way to the control panel while Maggie rushed to Coulson, trying to find a way to stop him from bleeding out. Loki showed no remorse, but a week voice stopped him.

"You're gonna lose," Coulson said, his voice raspy as he tried to breathe.

"Am I?" Loki asked amused, making Maggie even more upset.

"It's in your nature."

"Your heroes are scattered, your floating fortress falls from the sky...where is my disadvantage?"

"You lack conviction," Coulson answered.

"I don't think I-"

Loki was cut off by Phil shooting him into a wall with the gun. He dropped his hand to his side, making Maggie panic more. She added pressure to the wound to stop Coulson from bleeding out. Blood covered the inside of his mouth and started to stain his lips.

"So that's what it does."

"Stay with me, Phil! Keep your eyes open," Maggie said as Phil looked into her tearing eyes. "We'll get you help, just keep your eyes open. We can't lose you. I can't lose you."
