TWENTY-TWO

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: PHASE TWO

WITH NATASHA BEHIND HER, MAGGIE RUSHED BACK TO THE LAB TO WARN BRUCE THAT LOKI WAS MANIPULATING HIM.

The moment she walked in, she rushed back to the laboratory. He held a worried expression before immediately covering her in his arms. 82 years old or not, she needed the embrace of the closest thing she had to a brother. The interrogation with Loki had made her exhausted.

Loki hit some sensitive areas even if Maggie got everything they needed to know out of him. She had control at the end, but she was even more scared of both Loki and herself. She also felt connected to him somehow, like there was an invisible tie between them both. Maggie had a theory that it was caused by the scepter and absorbing a small fraction of it's power.

"You good?" Tony asked in a concerned voice, seeing Maggie look shipments up.

"I-I," Maggie couldn't fully speak, still scared while Fury walked in. "It was intense, but now we know his next play. He wants to unleash the Hulk."

"Good job, Barnes, you did well," Fury said as he walked in. "Thought you were about to lose it for a moment."

"You shouldn't have let her go through that," Tony scolded.

"You forget that Maggie is an agent of SHIELD, Stark and she successfully got everything we need to know out of Loki," Fury answered, cutting Maggie off.

"Well, now that you've made go through that, you can finally explain what Phase Two is."

Steve stepped into the lab, dropping a HYDRA assault rifle on the table, causing Fury, Banner and Tony to turn. Steve looked at Fury clearly mad, Maggie doing the same but with her arms crossed.

"PHASE 2 is a SHIELD uses the cube to make weapons," Steve said, almost angry. "Sorry, the computer was moving a little slow for me."

"Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract. This does not mean that we're-"

"I'm sorry, Nick," Tony said moving the computer screen, showing plans of the weapons. "What were you lying?"

"I was wrong, director. The world hasn't changed a bit," Steve said.

Thor walked into lab as Natasha kept her eyes on Bruce while Bruce looked at her, mad.

"Did you know about this!" Bruce asked Natasha.

"You wanna think about removing yourself from this environment, doctor?" Natasha asked, stepping a little closer.

"I was in Calcutta, I was pretty well removed."

"Loki's manipulating you."

"And you've been doing what exactly?"

"You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you," Natasha said.

"Yes, and I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy," Bruce replied

"I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction," Maggie spoke up, her face becoming one of anger.

"Because of him," Nick said, pointing to Thor.

"Me?" Thor asked stunned.

"Last year, Earth had as a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously outgunned."

"My people want nothing but peace with your planet."

"But you're not the only one back there, are you? And you're not the only threat. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled."
