Sitting all alone on a rocky planet covered mostly by water, an alien ate some flowers and looked up at the sky. As the winds changed, he stood up and fixed his lab coat. This alien smiled, knowing what it meant, for he could see clouds being brought with it.
"A storm is a-brewing," said the tall creature with green curly hair to himself as he ran toward an empty crater. His experiment was about to begin.
Earlier that orbital period, he had gotten badly hurt trying to get a carbon-based organism to grow in the soil. But a meteor crashed into the crops that he had planted. It took some time to heal, but time was on his side.
"Maybe now it will work!" he said to himself as he prepared his contraption.
Before that crash, the problem was that the organisms would dry out because of the lack of a constant supply of water. But now, thanks to the meteor crater, he had a way of collecting the water and also the means to distribute it evenly over the crops.
"Sometimes our troubles can help us grow," he said in a singing tune to himself as the rain started to pour.
It would be a long time before he could know if it worked, but just the thought of having some success was enough to make him move forward. Because even if it didn't work out, he knew something was to be learned. As the youngling he met on a lonely mountain once said, "Failing is just a small part that leads you to success." Those words were strange... to be continued?
