A Short Story

A Beautiful Encounter

"At first, nothing made sense... everything seemed to take an eternity. But it was just a matter of perspective," said Kosmic, pointing his staff towards the sky as he generated bubbles that sparkled like stars.

At that moment, the alien was younger, less experienced, and his appearance resembled an unstable nebula. Long before he wore his lab coat, his hair didn't yet cover his eyes, which were constantly moving frantically.

He needed to find a pocket of dark matter to obtain materials for his staff. However, in his mind echoed the words of those who trained him, "Good things take time." The young alien couldn't understand why patience was required for crafting a simple staff for stellaforming. It was just a tool to manipulate space and the fundamental forces of the universe. As long as he could manipulate things like gravity and nuclear forces, everything else would be a piece of cake. Kosmic pondered over the materials he could use, skilled as he was in creating advanced tools when he was younger-perhaps fundamental neutrons and protons, or time crystals. Maybe he could use inverse matter and stabilize it with a highly compacted layer of photons. The possibilities were endless.

"Finally", Kosmic exclaimed, finding a pocket of dark matter! It was time to start working. But wait, what was that force moving through the dark matter pocket? Fwush! "Whoa, careful!" shouted Kosmic, dodging the figure that almost collided with him at the speed of light. Suddenly, the figure turned towards Kosmic, causing a ripple in space. The force was so strong that Kosmic spun several times in the waves.

"Oh... sorry. I didn't know another Tester would be in this pocket besides us," said the young Tester, smiling as she collected meteor fragments floating around her like a long dress. "I'm Pleiadee," she said while adjusting the ring of ice and gas particles floating above her head like a hat. She extended her hands in greeting, then pointed towards distant flashes of light. "And that's my twin sister, Pleiyadi. We're preparing our staffs for stellaforming. Look, this is what I have so far," Pleiadee showed Kosmic a pile of materials that shimmered with instability. "It's not much yet, but it'll soon be one of the best Tester tool. What about you? What's your name? Do you know what kind of staff you'd like to create?"

Kosmic began to glow softly and chuckled within himself. After what felt like a very long moment, he managed to say, "Kosmic... they call me Kosmic. Why do you have all those objects orbiting around you for?" he impulsively asked, wanting to understand the reason behind it.

"Oh, that question is simple because it looks nice. A few millennia ago, my parents took us to a star system with nine planets, and it turns out there was a planet with many moon satellites that collided and formed beautiful rings. That same system formed from a nebula that looked like galactic gauze... and I thought something like that could adorn my being," Pleiadee explained, taking a spin.

"Oh... I see," Kosmic said, taking a piece of neutron star meteor that passed by and looking at it curiously. "Ornaments... what's the practical use?" he asked, analyzing what he had just heard.

"It's beautiful," Pleiadee replied.

"Beautiful? It seems impractical to me. It's not easy to control so many objects while traveling at the speed of light," Kosmic asked, confused.

"Yes, but you get used to it after a while. And beauty is practical too. Something beautiful brings you joy, even if it doesn't seem practical at first. You know, sometimes beautiful things aren't even practical, but they make existence more exciting," Pleiadee said, laughing while twirling. "I have to keep working; I'll see you around, I suppose," she said, shooting towards where her sister was.

"Ah... see you," Kosmic said, speechless after the encounter he just had.

"Wait, wait... I thought Testers worked alone unless they were married or something, Komos," said Big Shep Shep.

"Wait, did you run out of words interacting with that pretty girl? There must have been a spark then," said Ken the duck with rizz.

"Hahaha, let me explain," Kosmic said, adjusting his laboratory coat.
