Valentine
Odin and I drove to my house and headed to the kitchen, where we found my grandpa and parents around the kitchen island.
"I thought you were checking the supply trucks?" Dad asked.
"We were until Marty called me," I said.
Odin stood beside me with his hands shoved into his front pockets.
"Okay, so why are you here and not there?" my dad asked me.
I crossed my arms and cocked my head. "I'm curious why you're discussing Trevor."
"Who told you that?"
"Marty overheard your conversation."
My dad's jaw clenched before he stormed into his office and dragged Marty into the kitchen. He gripped Marty's neck and yanked Marty to him. "What have I told you about spying?"
"I wasn't spying. I came to get a drink and overheard the conversation," Marty said.
I stared at my dad and narrowed my eyes to a slit. Ma moved toward Dad and leaned into his ear. Dad glanced at me before removing his hand from Marty and stepped away. Marty shifted in his spot before backing away from Dad.
My dad averted his gaze. "Sorry."
Grandpa rose from his seat and glanced around the kitchen. "Your dad won't hurt you. He let his temper flare. He understands what he did wrong. Okay?"
We nodded in response.
Ma moved toward Marty and offered reassurance. Odin and I moved closer to the island.
"Since you're here, we might as well tell you what's happening." Grandpa proceeded to explain what he and my folks were discussing.
"Okay, so that would explain how the Percy sisters got their hands on the drug they used on Demarco," Odin said.
"What do you mean?" Grandpa asked.
"Trevor and the Percy sisters are cousins."
My folks stared at us in complete shock.
"How did you find this out?" Grandpa asked Odin.
"Casper's stepdaddy is Morgan Gray."
My folks stared at us in stunned silence.
"Odin, I think you broke Ma and Dad," Marty said.
Odin rolled his eyes.
Grandpa sat on a stool and rubbed his chin. He usually did this when he was piecing together information. "Okay, so we know everyone's situations are connected. It would explain why the family has had unnecessary issues."
"What are you thinking, Dad?" My dad asked Grandpa.
"It gives me more insight into what I need to do."
"What's that?"
"It's time to rectify a mistake that shouldn't have happened." Grandpa gave Dad a firm look before looking at us. "I want you to stay out of it."
"How? We got dragged into this stupid mess," I said.
"Valentine, I understand you want to protect your brothers and cousins. It comes with the territory of being the oldest. But this fight is mine." Grandpa's tone left no room for argument.

MattI understand Val's need to protect his family. But this wasn't his fight. It was mine. He had his fight when he confronted Trevor. It was the same when Odin had his altercation with Robert Haywood.
