Change of plans

Jace

I ran toward the playscape, climbed on it, and chased after Dallas and Brayden. I climbed as we played tag.

"Boys!" Kyler yelled.

We stopped and looked at Kyler.

"Be careful."

We nodded and returned to playing. I slid down the slide and played until I used the bathroom. I ran toward the center when Sofie stopped me.

"Jace, where are you going?"

"I need to use the bathroom."

"Okay, I'll take you." Sofie smiled and led me inside to the bathroom.

I didn't mind because Sofie was my girl. If Thor's dad hurt her feelings, I would hurt him. He promised not to hurt her.

I opened the door, entered, and used the bathroom. Once I finished, I washed my hands and opened the door to a guy. I gasped and tried to shut the door. The guy stopped it.

I ran to a stall, slammed the door shut, and locked it.

"Get back here," the guy growled in a scary tone.

I gasped as my heart thumped. The stall door shook like crazy. I got to the floor and crawled underneath the stall into the next one.

Bang!

I scrambled to my feet, ran to the door, and whipped it open. A pair of hands grabbed me, and one covered my mouth. I screamed and kicked when I saw Sofie on the floor with her eyes closed.

"What about the girl?" The guy holding me had asked.

"Andre said nothing about a girl. He said snatch the kid," the guy chasing me said.

I struggled in the guy's arms.

The guy holding me leaned into me. "If you want to see your mommy and daddy again, you'll stop."

I whimpered but stopped moving.

"Good boy."

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block out the guy's voice. My old dad would call me a good boy after he hurt me. I didn't want my old dad. I want Bub.

"Let's go before anyone sees us," the other guy said.

I opened my eyes as the guy carried me away from Sofie. Dad, save me.

Sofie

"Sofie?" a voice asked while shaking me.

My eyelids fluttered until they slowly opened. My mind was so foggy.

"Sofie?" Kyler searched my face while helping me to sit up.

I blinked several times, trying to wake up.

"Sofie."

I glanced around as I tried to focus. "Jace had to use the bathroom."

"Stay here, and don't move."

You don't need to tell me twice. I felt so dizzy as I wiped my eyes.

I searched the playground and noticed Sofie and Jace missing. I approached Mercedes. "Have you seen Sofie and Jace?"

"They went into the center," Mercedes said.

"Watch the kids."

Mercedes nodded in response.

I headed into the center, found Sofie lying on the floor next to the bathroom, and rushed toward her. After getting her awake and sitting up, I checked the bathroom. "Jace?"
