I made my decision on where to go to college at the end of April- on the fly.

I was finding myself not even that excited for college, to be honest.

And besides the fact that I knew it would be a lot of work, I wasn't exactly sure why. I chalked it up to being nervous about change.

Olivia and I decided on the same school. A state school in Pennsylvania called West Chester University.

When I told my dad I wanted to go to a state school, he didn't look thrilled, but he said, "Better than nothing, right?"

Vivienne chose a college called Bucknell University- and it was about two hours away from where I was going.

Part of me wished that we chose schools closer to each other.

But I'd never tell her that.

Vivienne had toured Bucknell right before she moved, and she liked it. She also didn't seem entirely excited for college.

"It's hard for me to get excited about a lot of things." she said to me, "Especially starting the long 7 years of school to become a lawyer."

Vivienne didn't actually want to be a lawyer. She wanted to do something in fashion- however she said even her father would most likely object to that.

I chose my major to be Nursing. However I had a feeling I would possibly change that.

Valentina was going to be going to the local community college, for their Nursing program, and Amanda was going to college in Florida. She's always wanted to be there, in the warm weather and the sunshine.

Vivienne joined my friends and I for lunch sometimes. And when she sat with us after learning that Amanda was going to school in Florida, she said, holding two hands out past each ear, "Be prepared for your hair to be out to here. My grandparents live in Florida half the year, and when I go to visit them, my hair frizzes like crazy."

Amanda laughed and said, "I'll get a keratin treatment."

"Now that's smart." Vivienne said back.

I enjoyed seeing Vivienne get along with my friends. I knew she was truly the type that didn't really need or want friends- but I knew that sometimes she had to get lonely.

A couple of weeks before prom, Vivienne had a proposition for me on a Wednesday night.

"My parents are in Colorado." she said to me, "On some business trip for my dad. Want to stay the night?"

"Are you sure?" I asked, "It's a school night."

Vivienne laughed, "Please. We're about to graduate. School nights aren't a thing."

"Fair point. I'll have to check with my mom. But I'll text you, okay?"

Vivienne smiled, "I expect you to say yes."

"Expect, or hope?"

"Both." Vivienne said to me.

When I got home, I checked with my mom to see if it was okay if I slept over Vivienne's.

"Sure." she said, "You don't really have to ask me, hun. You can just tell me."

"Okay, thanks." I said, "I just wasn't sure."

"Please. I'm so relieved you can't get pregnant." my mom said, with a laugh.

Michelle came walking into the kitchen that moment and said, "Whoa. Are you infertile, Charlotte?"

I turned to look at her, "What?"

"Mom said you can't get pregnant." Michelle said, grabbing an apple from the bowl of fruit on the kitchen island.
