"My darling, you look gorgeous." My sister Abril said as she finished styling my hair. I smiled and thanked her, but it was merely a facade. Inside, I was far from happy.

Indeed, I do look beautiful...!

My hands and feet were cold, and anyone could easily see that this radiant bride was nervously anxious.

Yes, everyone, today is my wedding day.

After the makeup was done, everyone left the room, as I wanted to be alone for a while. I glanced around my room, contemplating the significant change my life was about to undergo.

I stood up from my chair and went to the balcony. I looked at the guests outside, who were drinking and enjoying themselves. But suddenly, my eyes landed on one person.

FLASHBACK

"Mom, I'm back!" I yelled as I entered the house, having just received the results of my final year of college.

The graduation ceremony was a few days away. I called out for my mom again, but there was no response.

"Mom?" Still no reply.

"Oh! Nova, you're back, my dear!" said Sophie, our maid.

"Yes, Sophie. Where's Mom?"

"Your father came home and took your mother out for some errands."

"Dad came back from his trip?" I asked as I took a water bottle from the fridge and drank deeply.

"This morning." She replied.

"Okay! And where are Abril and Leo?" I asked, noticing the absence of my sister and her son, my nephew Leo.

"Leo insisted on going to the park, so Miss Abril took him there."

"Got it. I'll head there too. See you later." I said and left the house. The park is next door, so I didn't need a car. You've put on a little weight, Miss Nova, so a short walk won't hurt, I told myself.
