I jolted upright in bed, my heart racing with a sudden, urgent thought. My eyes darted around the dimly lit room, eventually landing on a window.

Without wasting a second, I hurried over and tried to open it. Frustration welled up inside me as I found it locked.

I fumbled with a hairpin, trying to pick the lock like I'd seen in countless movies, but to no avail.

"Ahhh..." A scream of frustration escaped my lips. But I couldn't afford to waste time. I spotted another window in the bathroom and dashed towards it.

My hands shook as I fumbled with the latch, but relief washed over me when it opened effortlessly.

"Thank God" I whispered to myself, peering out into the cool night air. The backyard was empty, no one in sight. I took a deep breath, savoring the brief moment of freedom.

I hurried back into the room, grabbing a blanket. Quickly, I tore it into strips and tied them together, creating a makeshift rope. Back in the bathroom, I secured one end to the window frame and began my descent.

My heart pounded in my chest as I made my way down, inch by precarious inch. Finally, I reached the ground, but a sharp pain shot through my leg as I landed awkwardly, twisting my ankle.

"Ahhh" I gasped, gritting my teeth against the pain. I couldn't let it stop me now. I forced myself to stand, brushing the dirt from my clothes.

As I looked up, my blood ran cold. He was there, on the third floor, staring down at me with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat.

His expression was a mix of anger and something else desperation, maybe? But I didn't wait to find out.

I turned and ran, the pain in my ankle barely registering as adrenaline took over. I had no idea where I was going, only that I had to get away. My life depended on it.

My frantic run was abruptly halted by a low growl. I stop as a large dog blocked my path, its teeth bared in a menacing snarl.

I froze, my mind racing. The dog took a step towards me, and I instinctively backed away, my heart hammering in my chest.

The dog's bark echoed in the night, and I glanced around, desperate for an escape. A large tree nearby caught my eye—if I could just reach it, I might have a chance.

Summoning every ounce of courage, I took a deep breath and sprinted towards the tree. I climbed on it and settle myself on a sturdy branch, panting heavily.

Below, the dog continued to bark, glaring up at me with a ferocity that sent shivers down my spine. I clung to the tree trunk, trembling.

"Listen-"

*bark*

"Ahhh..." I yelped as the dog barked again, louder this time.

"Buster" a voice called out, cutting through the night. I flinched, my grip tightening on the tree. The dog, Buster, fell silent at the command.
