"I want to marry your daughter." Alexander declared. My eyes snapped open at his words.

Even in a crowded place, I could always pick out his voice. I turned to face him, scrutinizing his expression to gauge his sincerity.

Tears began to well up in my eyes as I saw nothing but earnestness in his gaze, challenging my doubts once more.

A shiver coursed through me as he turned towards me. He stared at my face for a moment, then exhaled deeply as if he had been holding his breath for a long time. I turned my face when he reached out to wipe my tears.

"You can't marry her." someone interjected. Alexander's broad frame obstructed my view, preventing me from seeing who spoke.

"Why?" Alexander thundered, and I flinched. I looked at him, swallowing hard as I noticed the fury in his reddened eyes.

"She is already engaged, and her fiancé is desperately searching for her." The voice continued. Dad... It's dad voice. How is this possible?

I longed to run to him, embrace him tightly, and cry my heart out, but I couldn't. I lacked the strength to move.

"Forget it, Father-in-law." Alexander said, intertwining our hands. My eyes widened at his audacity.

"Your daughter is mine." Alexander asserted, locking eyes with me. I felt my throat tighten with each passing second. I wanted to slap him, but our intertwined hands prevented me.

I tried to pull away, but he tightened his grip. When he glared at me, I ceased my struggles. Closing my eyes, more tears spilled over.

Why are you crying, you fool?

He called for the doctor, and I opened my eyes as he wrapped his arms around me, helping me to sit up.

"Water?" he asked. I nodded, and he brought a glass to my lips. He didn't let me hold it, instead, he held it and made me drink.

"Slowly" Alexander said, but it was too late as I had already drained the glass in one breath.

After a moment, my father approached. I hugged him tightly and cried my heart out. I broke the embrace when the doctor arrived. He began checking my temperature and other vitals.

"Sir, she is completely fine now, but we will keep her under observation until tonight." the doctor said to Alexander, who simply nodded.

The doctor left the room, and a nurse came in with a tray of food. She placed it on the bedside table and exited. My father was about to take the tray, but Alexander stopped him and sat beside me.

He took the food in his hand and brought it to my mouth. I opened my mouth when he glared at me. As he fed me, I glanced at my father. He had dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept for a week.

"Nova" Alexander called, making me flinch. He wrapped one arm around my waist and pulled me close. With his other hand, he caressed my hair.

A tear slipped from my eye when I looked into his. His eyes were red, indicating he hadn't slept either. He kissed away my tear, and I buried my face in his neck.
