Warnings/Notes: Drinking

I rested my head in my hands as I sat down at the table with Mikko, looking at the candle in the table's centerpiece. It had been a long day at work for me today and I was tired and worked up over it, so he decided to take me out for dinner tonight to cheer me up. I was glad he took me to this new restaurant as a way to help, but I thought it was just too much. After all, I have bad days at work a lot—it's nothing out of the ordinary.

A few minutes passed and our waitress arrived at the table with some water, then asked the two of us what we wanted to drink. I was about to say something when my boyfriend cut me off. "Two glasses of wine, please." He said with a smile and the waitress left our table.

I took a sip from my glass of water and sighed as I put it back down on the table. "You know, you didn't have to do all of this for me, Mikko." I said and held my face in my hands.

"But I want to, Y/N—it'd be unfair if I didn't return the favor, after all." Mikko said and was about to continue when the waitress came back with our drinks. We both ordered our food then continued talking after she left.

"Why would it be unfair? My work is nothing, and I don't even do enough for you." I muttered, taking sips of wine between words and shedding a few tears. He smiled and shook his head, then held my hand and pulled it slightly, making me look up at him.

"Listen, beautiful. You've done more than enough for me." My boyfriend said and brought his other hand to my face. He wiped the tears off my face and cupped his hands on my cheeks, a big smile on his face. We stared into each other's eyes for a few moments before our waitress came back with the food.

I took a few bites of my food and he started eating as well, then stopped and drank some of his wine. "All those times I'd have a bad game and come home crying, who would be there waiting for me?" He asked. I swallowed my food and looked up at him, starting to feel a little better.

"As soon as I walk through that door and see you on the couch with your arms wide open for me, all my worries go away." Mikko said and smiled. "The hugs, kisses, and words of encouragement you give me—they may not seem like much, but it means a lot."

"I see." I said and thought about it as he started eating again. I thought about the silly things that happened this past season, and the silly things that are happening this off-season so far, and smiled. "Like how practice went yesterday? I lost braincells hearing about the shenanigans and mischief. I was glad I calmed you down when you came home." I chuckled, taking some bites of my food and sipping my drink.

"It's not that different from how your best friend quit work today, or from how your boss is being immature again." He said then the both of us kept eating. I guess that's true.

"You know what I mean, Y/N?" My boyfriend asked and I nodded my head. The waitress came back to our table and I asked for refills of the wine, seeing that the both of us were enjoying it. We finished our dinner and sat there for a while before paying the bill.

Mikko and I walked out of the restaurant and I was about to go search for his car when he stopped me. "I have to order a ride back, remember? Neither of us can drive if we're both drunk." He laughed.

I crossed my arms and yawned. How did I forget we took an Uber here!? I gently backed up and stood against the wall outside as he got out his phone and ordered a ride. I leaned to the side and gave him a kiss before continuing to stand there with him. He put his phone back in his pocket and hugged me tight.

Looking at the pretty night sky, I felt more peaceful—and grateful, as well. Grateful that my boyfriend and I were together, grateful that we're here for each other. We turned around to look at each other and brought our faces together, our lips touching for a couple moments. A few minutes passed and we kept hugging and kissing, then our ride arrived.

I felt pretty tired as I got in the car and sat next to him. The car was fairly small, but I wasn't complaining, as it meant the two of us would be as close as possible. I leaned up against him and smiled as he ran his hands through my hair. A few moments passed and I started to doze off, as content as can be.

I woke up in Mikko's lap and forgot where—or when—I was entirely. "You fell asleep on the way back home, so I carried you inside and laid you down here." He said and held me in his arms. Damn, I don't deserve him. "Well rested, beautiful?" He added after he gave me a kiss on the cheek.

I nodded my head and my boyfriend set me down in his lap, laying me on my stomach. "Jeez, how long has it been? Is it the morning yet?" I frantically asked, half-asleep, and got cut off.

"No, silly—it's only been half an hour." He said and I giggled. He rest his hands on my back and I yawned as he started rubbing it, getting sleepy again. I could tell he was tired as well and I slowly got up. The both of us walked to the bedroom and got ready for bed.

"I love you, Y/N, and I'm so glad you're feeling better now." Mikko said as he got in bed.

"I'm also glad I'm feeling better." I replied as I joined him in bed and we got under the covers. "And I love you too, Mikko."
