It was Super Bowl Sunday and I had spent most of the late morning and the afternoon getting ready for the big game. It was around half an hour before it was supposed to start and all the festivities were underway.
Sasha sighed as he sat down on the couch and looked at me from the living room as I walked there with some snacks—some chips and other stuff—from the kitchen. "Come on, Y/N—you know I don't keep up with American football."
I looked over at him and thought for a moment before setting the snacks on the coffee table. "Hm, don't have to watch it if you don't want to."
My husband stared into space for a few seconds before finally saying something. "I guess it's worth a try." He said, smiling at me.
I smiled back and sat next to him on the couch. The game was starting soon, so I grabbed the remote, turned the TV on, and switched to the right channel. I leaned up against him and he pulled me close before we watched some of the silly pregame commercials.
We'd already eaten half the bag of chips when the national anthem played on the TV and the game promptly started. Sasha gave me a soft kiss on my forehead as the players ran out to the field and lined up. I snuggled up closer to him and we started watching the game.
A few minutes passed, and none other than Taylor Swift showed up on the screen for the first time during the game. "Oh, here's that Swift girl. All I hear is people talking about her." My husband said, leaning back on the couch.
"I know, I know. That's what happens when a celebrity dates a celebrity." I rolled my eyes and replied. I looked over at my husband and smiled as I watched him eat some of the snacks that I'd prepared for us.
"What if I did that to you?" I asked with a smirk. "Cheer you on during your games? Yell around and be shown on the Jumbotron almost all game?"
Sasha blushed a little bit and let out a small chuckle at what I said. "Oh, sweetheart... That would be pretty embarrassing, but also very cute as well."
A while passed and I could tell he was getting tired, so I gently got up and went to the closet to grab a spare blanket so we could be nice and cozy. Even though he didn't know much about what was going on in the game, he seemed glad to be able to watch it.
After halftime, then both of us had changed into our pajamas and snuggled up even closer. Most of the time wasn't even spent on focusing on the game, we were just cuddling and talking about various things. I looked over at the window and saw how dark it was and looked back at the TV. Then, I dozed off for a little bit, but woke up right when the game was almost over.
"Oh boy, even longer now." I said after rubbing my eyes and seeing that it was overtime. Sasha gave me a quick kiss and looked at me with his cute, tired eyes.
"I'm sure it won't take an eternity." He said before gently patting my back.
"Hopefully it isn't as long as when y'all played Carolina that one game back in the playoffs. I remember it very well." I replied. "I think I fell asleep after, I don't know, the third OT or something?"
"Yeah, thank god for Tkachuk in that game. I thought it was gonna go on forever 'cause of how many saves were being made on both sides, then he scored and we could all go home." My husband said and pulled the blanket over us.
Our eyes were glued to the TV and we were carefully watching every second. After the game ended and the Chiefs had won, he grinned and looked at me again. "I guess my prediction was right."
"I thought you knew. Chiefs?" I said and raised my eyebrow. He chuckled again and hugged me tight before pulling me in for a kiss.
"I love you." I mumbled as I felt myself getting tired.
"I love you too, sweetheart." Sasha said, then I slowly climbed onto his lap and curled up. After dozing off again, I woke up to the soothing feeling of his hands running through my hair.
"Tired, aren't we?" He said as he heard my soft yawning when I woke up, and I nodded my head. He carefully took the blanket off of us and slowly picked me up before getting off the couch.
Struggling to stay awake in his arms, I kept yawning and my eyes got watery as he carried me down the hallway to our bedroom. A few seconds later, we finished our bedtime routine and laid down under the covers together.
"You know," My husband said and looked into my eyes. "I had a lot of fun with you. I don't know anything about the NFL, but I'd watch games like this again anytime. As long as we're enjoying it together."
A tear left my eye as I heard what he said, and I felt warm and fuzzy inside. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
"Let's go to sleep soon." Sasha yawned, but I didn't wanna go to sleep. I just wanted to keep cuddling.
"Mmm, can't we just stay up a bit longer?" I asked and sat up against the headboard.
"Come on. We both have a lot to do tomorrow, I think we could use a good night's rest." He said. "Besides I have to leave for Pittsburgh for the game soon, remember?"
Oh, I forgot the next game was an away one. Welp. "Yeah... But I wish we'd spend Valentine's Day together instead of you being at the game." I pouted, crossing my arms.
My husband smiled and held my hand, wanting me to lay back down next to him. "Don't worry, we'll always find time together."
I got under the covers again and nuzzled Sasha's face before wrapping my arms and legs around him. "Now let's go to sleep, for real this time."
"Goodnight, Y/N." He whispered in my ear and started gently rubbing my back.
"Night night, Sasha. Sweet dreams." I replied and let out a big yawn. The two of us cuddled for a little longer before giving into our tiredness and falling asleep in each others arms.
