"Alright, settle down, settle down, people," Mr. O said, waving down the chattering students in the classroom. "All right, it's Monday. We have a lot to get through. But first and foremost is signing up for your mandatory community service project."

"More like community suck-vice," Brandt shouted across the room, earning an eye roll from Delilah and a few laughs from their classmates.

"I doubt that you will be saying that when you hear these extremely cool options," Mr. O continued, pointing at Brandt. "Okay, Sam's dad is delivering meals to the homeless."

"PB & J making party at my house!" Sam exclaimed, trying to imitate Brandt, but failing miserably. The class was completely silent and everything became sort of awkward. Delilah sent him a comforting smile to make him feel less embarrassed.

"Yeah... all right," Mr. O said, looking back at his paper. "There's a river trash pickup; you can scrape gum off the bridge. And finally... Heather's mom is hosting a fashion show at the nursing home."

All of the girls turned to look at each other.

"Okay, now I am so excited," Becca said.

As the bell rung, all of the girls grabbed their bags and rushed out the door.

"Guys, guys, stop it, stop it. It's my mom, not yours, okay? It's my mom," Heather said, blocking everyone else from signing up before she did. "Wrote your names down for you," she grinned, sending a thumbs up to Connie and Delilah.

"Maya, we're gonna be supermodels!" Anna shouted, receiving snickers from the boys in the hall.

"Yeah, maybe for the blind," Brandt smirked, earning a fist bump from Dustin.

"Spending time with the elderly can be so rewarding," Heather's mom explained. "Whenever Heather and I visit her grandma in the home, I think to myself, no one else even notices these people besides us."

Heather nodded and glanced around at her friends. "So true, you guys."

"I mean, some of these older people haven't been noticed in 40 to 50 years," her mom continued. "Yeah. So let's fix that. Now, what turns heads more than a big, beautiful hat? Almost nothing."

"Oh my God, that's so true, wow," Anna awkwardly said, playing with her hair.

"Luckily, I have my own new line of hats... Deb's Darling Designs," Heather's mom proudly said, showing off her collection and earning the admiration of all of the girls. "And each of you will be wearing one of my creations as you walk the runway with one of Franklin county's most forgotten old people. The actual fashion show is on Saturday, but we'll have two rehearsals before that to make sure you're good at modeling."

"The first rehearsal is tomorrow afternoon," Heather announced, excitedly clapping her hands together.

"Heather, don't talk over me, sweetie," her mom disapprovingly said. "So, please. This is essential. Bring a professional photo of you to the rehearsal."

"Headshots at the mall after school, so we get the best hats," Becca said to Delilah and the other girls, excluding Maya, Anna, and Terra.

"So where-where are you guys meeting at the...?" Maya stammered. "Should we meet at the Orange Julius? Or like..."

"Oh, we actually already have reservations," Heather lied, hoping to send a clear message to Maya.

"Cool, so do we, so..." Maya said. "Yeah, no, we can't come either. It's fine."
