[Maya] Okay, hold on. Let me add Anna to the call.

[Delilah] Okay.

(line ringing)

[Anna] Hello?

[Maya] Hey 'Na, it's Mai and Lila. 

[Anna] Hi!

[Delilah] Are you at your dad's place? 

[Anna] Yeah. It's great.

[Maya] Oh, my God. Amazing.

[Anna] I love it here. It's beautiful.

[Maya] Okay, so, you're never gonna believe it, but Ume is here from Japan.

[Anna] Are you serious?

[Delilah] Yeah.

[Anna] Oomi? Ume?

[Delilah] (laughing) Anna, it's Ume.

[Anna] No, that's what I meant. Yeah, I can't wait to meet her.

[Maya] Well, can you meet her now?

[Anna] (gasping) I would love to. Wait, let me ask my dad.

(after a long pause)

[Anna] Hi. He said I could go and to have fun.

[Maya] Okay, both of you come over right now!

[Anna] Okay, I'll see you guys soon!

[Delilah] Bye!

"I've heard so much about you from Maya," Anna said. "And I'm glad that you're here."

"...she doesn't speak English, Anna," Delilah explained. "She can't understand that."

"...sayonara," Anna smiled.

Maya burst out laughing. "'Na, that means 'bye.'"

"Oh, sorry," Anna giggled. 

"I'm gonna translate for you," Maya said, turning to talk to Ume. "Japan. Fun. Visit. Visit-O. Yaeeya."

Anna sighed. "I always forget, like, my best friend's fluent."

"Are you serious?" Delilah snickered. "That was definitely not Japanese."

"I'm like, pretty fluent," Maya said, ignoring Delilah. "It's just 'cause my mom's Japanese. But I'm like, not full. So."

"Don't downplay yourself," Anna exclaimed, causing Ume to smile.

"Isn't she like, so cute?" Maya asked as she held Ume's face close to hers. "I feel like we could pass as twins. Look."

"Oh, yeah..." Anna hesitated. "She looks more like Lila, though. Or she could be like, your baby sister. Just 'cause her skin's paler like Lila's and she looks more like, innocent, and like, she's shorter..."

"Like me," Maya said, pointing to herself. "Like my skin. And stuff."

"Yeah, but her skin is more like, porcelain-y," Anna grinned. "Like Lila's."

Maya frowned and crossed her arms. "Okay, thanks."

"I'm sure she didn't mean it in a bad way," Delilah added in reassuringly. "You and Ume are both beautiful."

"She keeps staring at you guys," Maya scoffed as she glanced over at Ume. 

(in Japanese) "Her nose is big," Ume mumbled as she looked at Anna.
