Before I start writing this chapter, I just wanted to ramble about the photo I decided to use for the thumbnail. The picture on the right is Alex's actor (Lincoln Jolly) in his prom outfit, and I thought it would fit really well for this chapter since it's a dance. I know everyone wears more casual outfits to the dance in the actual episode, but come on. It's a dance. Obviously, I want to dress the characters in cute outfits for their first dance.

Alex's actor has an amazing fashion sense, honestly. Most of the pictures for this story have been from his Instagram (@ lincolnjolly), if you wanted to know. The Vivienne Westwood heart bag he has on is one of my favorite things ever, even if it's not quite realistic for a middle school dance.

Anyways, hope you enjoy! I have a feeling that this is going to be one of my favorite chapters.

The next day at school, Delilah was talking to Heather, Connie, Jess, and Becca when Heather smiled and waved Anna over to the group. Anna closed her locker and walked over with a depressed expression on her face.

"Hi Anna," Heather said. "I'm... sorry about your parents' divorce. When my parents divorced, it like, sucked, but you'll be fine."

"It's just... hard to comprehend," Anna sighed.

"Yeah, I know. Feels like the world's ending, right?" Heather nodded.

"Yeah, it really does," Anna said. "I'm kind of like, in shock."

Heather smiled. "On the bright side, at least you get two of everything. Anyway, we've gotta go. I'll... see you later, I guess."

During lunch, Principal Ravage turned on the loudspeaker to make an announcement.

"Good morning, Trailview Middle. It's 55 degrees and partly cloudy. Bring your coats tonight for the dance, and remember our clothing rules. Nothing short, nothing tight; we're gonna dance till the morning light."

Delilah cringed at his quote and turned to Heather and Connie to discuss the dance.

"Who's house are we getting ready at?" Becca excitedly asked. "Heather's?"

Heather shrugged. "Yeah, sure. I have the biggest bathroom mirror, so we can all do our makeup together-" she began to say, before looking over at Anna, who walked up to their table. "Oh. Hey, Anna."

"Hi, you guys," Anna nervously said, fidgeting with her food tray.

"We were just making plans for the dance," Delilah said, smiling at her friends. "Do you wanna get ready with us? ...If you're okay with that, Heather?"

Heather nodded. "Yeah, sure. I don't mind."

"Oh my God, okay, cool! Thanks for the invite, you guys," Anna excitedly said. "I'll see you then."

"Yeah, whatever," Heather muttered under her breath after Anna left. "It's so annoying, you guys. My mom is like, forcing me to be nice to her because her parents are getting divorced."

"She's not a bad person, Heather," Delilah defensively said. "Maybe you'll like her more if you spend time with her."

"I guess," Heather sighed. "Anyway, did Alex ask you to the dance yet?"

Delilah rolled her eyes. "No. And I doubt he will, because we're not dating."

"Tell that to your matching bracelets," Connie snickered. "How are you not his girlfriend yet?"

"Hey! Friends can wear matching bracelets," Delilah complained.

Heather giggled. "Yeah; if they're both girls. But for a girl and a guy that clearly like each other? Sounds like a couple thing to me."
