"Does anyone know what these lines stand for?" the teacher ominously asked as he wiped the chalk off of his hands. "Hm? These six lines... stand for the six million people killed in the Holocaust. Jewish people, gypsies, handicapped people, homosexuals, but mostly Jews, were rounded up by the Nazis, put in camps, and eventually killed. Six million lives. Can you even comprehend that?"

Maya turned around in her seat to whisper to Anna and Delilah. "Oh, my God... I feel like, so bad for the Jewish people in World War II. I could cry, honestly."

"Me too," Anna softly said as Delilah nodded in agreement.

"They were given one hour," Mr. O continued. "To pack a bag before being loaded into a train and taken away forever."

Before he could say anything else, Becca raised her hand.

"Yes, Miss Roth?" he asked.

"I'm Jewish, and it's really messed up, you guys," she sighed. "It's actually such crazy timing that we're talking about the Holocaust right now, because my bat mitzvah's next weekend. Everyone in this class is invited, obviously, but I haven't received all of the RSVPs. So please, please, please RSVP."

Suddenly, the class forgot that they were being taught a serious topic, and everyone began chattering.

"I heard there's gonna be Dippin' Dots," Maya whispered excitedly.

Anna ignored Maya and started shushing the entire class. "You guys, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be bossy, but Mr. O's talking. There's an assignment... so..."

"Thank you. Your homework assignment is to present to the class what single item that you would bring with you if the Nazis showed up at your door."

"What're you gonna do for the history assignment?"

Delilah was watching Alex play basketball at night. The two of them were alone, since Dustin and Brandt left to go back home and eat dinner. Alex grinned as he made his shot and ran back to his girlfriend, who was waiting for him patiently on the curb as she handed him a bottle of water.

"Dunno," he said, gratefully accepting the drink. "Maybe I'll bring a picture of you."

"How the hell would that help you in any way during the Holocaust?" she said, furrowing her eyebrows as he sat down next to her.

"Emotional support," he smirked. "You're all I need."

Delilah rolled her eyes, but smiled as she ruffled his hair. "Okay, whatever, cutie."

"What about you? Have you decided yet?" he asked.

"I'd say a knife, but I doubt the school would be happy about me bringing one," she laughed. "You know, to stab some assholes before I die?"

Alex snickered as he stood up to shoot another shot. "That's my girl."

Before she could respond, Delilah's cell phone started ringing. It was her mom telling her that she had to come home soon, since it was already dark out.

"I have to get back home," she sighed as Alex sunk the ball into the basket again with a small cheer. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

He frowned sadly and walked up to her, wrapping her in a hug. "Okay. Could I get a goodnight kiss before you go?"
