Ronnie's POV

It was the afternoon. Lauren and I decided to go out into the city before Keandre's match.

"Thanks for coming with me," Lauren said.

"Zang!" Zangoose cried.

"It's nothing," I replied. "What'd you want to come out here for anyways?"

"I just wanted to get out a bit before Keandre's battle. Maybe buy some stuff and get some food." She said. "Wait out here."

"For what?"

"I'm getting you something and I want it to be a surprise." She smiled before walking into the store.

"Guess it's just you and me now Zangoose." I sighed.

"Zang..." He groaned.

"Didn't expect to see you out here," I heard a familiar voice.

I looked up and saw Braeden walking toward me.

"I'm just out here waiting for someone," I said. "What's up."

"While I'm here, I might as well explain what I was talking about yesterday," Braeden said. "The U18 and stuff."

"From what I can tell it's a tournament of some sort," I said.

"You're right," Braeden said. "It's the more popular way of becoming champion in this region. It happens every other year, the Riotro Regional Cup."

"So what's the A17 and U18 stuff?"

"The bracket is split into 2 groups. People above the age of 17, and under the age of 18. " Braeden explained. "Outside of that, it works like a normal tournament."

"Then what's at the end of it?"

"After the tournament is completed, the overall winner will face off against the champion," Braeden. "She was in my class during the last tournament. She'll be 19 by the time the tournament comes around in 2025."

"So she's young. How long did the champion before her last?" I asked.

"Uhm... 18 years? Something like that." Braeden answered.

"Just how strong is she?" I asked.

"She knocked me out in the round-robin matches..." Braeden said, embarrassed. "I plan on getting my get back in the next one, I've been training extra hard."

"Round robin?" I asked.

"Before the round of 16, they split the brackets into groups of 3," Braeden answered. "The person with the best record out of the 3 moves on, the other 2 are eliminated. It's for each side of the bracket, so there are 128 total trainers."

"So what do I need to get in?" I asked.

"I believe it's elite 4 or gym status, approval from your academy, or all 8 badges," Braeden said. "I think that's it."

"Well thanks for explaining it," I said. "Seems pretty complicated."

"Eh, not really, it is different from other regions though. I'll see you later." Braeden waved. "Oh and by the way, tell your friend Dontre to challenge me sometime."
