When I finally woke up after an exhausting couple of days, I got up and quickly got dressed. I decided to try an outfit that I had yet to wear, which consisted of a sort of plaid dress with a brown peter pan collar paired with a black leather jacket. I wore my black converse with it as well and then set up in front of the mirror to twist my hair into a sort of braid-crown hairstyle, which I also had never tried before.
I was in the process of sliding pins into my hair, when I heard a knock at the door.
"Its open!" I called, adjusting the pieces that were meant to frame my face. The door opened and I glanced up, smiling as the Doctor appeared in the doorway. "Good morning."
"Morning." He greeted, beaming at me as he leaned against the door to press it closed behind him.
"Someone's smiley this morning." I noted, glancing back to the mirror as I continued on my hair.
"What do you mean? I'm always Smiley. Smiley Doctor, that's me." I shook my head, sliding the last pin into place before standing up and smoothing the fabric of my skirt down.
"Excuse me, Mary Perdita, are you wearing a dress of your own free will?" He questioned, crossing his arms over his chest. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"What are you on about? I wear skirts all the time." I retorted, checking my outfit in the mirror.
"Skirts, yes, with ratty denim jackets and rock band t-shirts," He pointed out, coming over to stand beside me, "But this, this is a proper dress, with a little collar, its almost...whimsical."
"Whimsical?" I repeated, looking at him skeptically. "Its black and brown, what's whimsical about that?"
"And this hair? You've actually gone and styled your hair, what's that about-"
"I can go change if this is going to become a thing-" I started, pointing over my shoulder, where I was storing my clothes. I turned to walk back to it, but the Doctor grabbed my wrist, pulling me back to him and catching me with his hands on my waist.
"Don't you dare." He said through a smile, his eyes falling to my lips. I drew my bottom lip between my teeth, raising my eyebrows at him. "I wasn't complaining by any means, I was just...noticing. It seems different, that's all."
"Well...I am different, remember?" I said, leaning over and grabbing my jacket from the bed. "I've got...memories and life experiences now...albeit not much. I was a kid after all."
I pulled the jacket over my shoulders, adjusting the collar underneath. The Doctor smiled at this.
"And yet, the old Mary still lingers on." He said, glancing at my jacket. I held my arms out, silently agreeing with him.
"So, onto Jackie's?" I asked, going to walk past him.
"I was thinking a slight detour, actually," He said, stepping in front of me and grabbing my hands, "Call it...a passing fancy."
"Passing? With you?" I repeated. He simply smiled, taking a small shuffling step towards me so that the toes of our converse were touching together. "Personal space, much?"
"Like we ever respected that before." He replied, sliding his hands beneath my jacket to grab my waist. He pulled me towards him, kissing me softly. I had to stand on my toes to reach him, smiling against his lips as I reaching up and wrapping my arms around his neck. Our kiss only lasted for a second though, as the Doctor made a confused noise before pulling away from me with a notebook in his hand. "Why do you have a notebook inside of your jacket?"
"Why do you think?" I asked, sitting down on the bed "For notes."
"What are you taking notes for?" He questioned, flipping it open and skimming through the pages.
