Once we reached Finch's office, the Doctor stepped up to the door, pulling a silver tube with a blue light on the end out of his pocket.
"Sonic Screwdriver," I whispered, "Nice." He furrowed his eyebrows, turning back to look at me. He held the device up, looking at it, before looking back at me.
"How did you know that?" He questioned.
"Mary knows a lot of things. Especially extraterrestrial things," Sarah Jane explained, "We don't know how though, as she doesn't remember learning it. She doesn't remember...most anything, actually." The Doctor looked at me again.
"Just open the bloody door." I said, pushing him aside and carefully pushing the door open. I glanced around the room, my eyes combing the area until they came to rest on the ceiling. I reached back, grabbing the Doctor's tie and pulling him so that he was standing beside me. I pointed up at the ceiling.
"Rose," He stated, "You know how you used to think all the teachers slept in the school?" I carefully stepped into the office, The Doctor right by my side so that the others could get in the door to see. "Well, they do."
Mickey, Rose, and Sarah Jane stuck their heads in, their eyes following our gaze to see the thirteen human-sized bats that were hanging upside down from the ceiling fast asleep.
"No way!" Mickey took off running, Rose and Sarah Jane not far behind him and the Doctor and I slowly exited the office, closing the door behind us as silently as we could.
"You're not affected by that at all?" He asked, pointing a thumb over his shoulder. I shrugged.
"I have...some really strange dreams." I told him. "When I'm asleep...I've seen things that would give even the great 'Doctor' nightmares."
"Like what?" I thought about it.
"Large slimy creatures that use human skin as disguises. They turn them into costumes, zips across the forehead and everything."
"Yeah, but...that's real. That'd be the Slitheen." I nodded.
"Right...yeah. There's also...metal men with metal hearts and a human brain jammed inside." He opened his mouth to identify them. "Yeah, Cybermen, I figured out the whole naming bit for myself, thanks."
"So wait, you mean to tell me that you've been having dreams about real alien races?" He asked. I shrugged.
"Would you look at that? The strange man with the blue box knows how to state the obvious, gold star for you!"
"But you've never encountered them before in real life?" He continued, ignoring my sarcasm.
"Its like Sarah Jane said, I can't remember."
"What do you mean you don't remember?"
"Geez, and they call you a genius?" I questioned. "I don't know why I'm even telling you any of this. I still don't think you can be trusted." He opened his mouth to respond, but I kept talking. "You might have Sarah Jane and Rose under some kind of spell that keeps them enthralled by you, but its not working on me. Something is off about you Doctor, and I'm not gonna go pouring out my life's story to you until I know what it is, but aside from that, we've got more pressing matters at hand, don't you think?"
We caught up with the other three outside of the school, where Mickey and Rose panting dramatically.
"I am not going back in there. No Way!"
"Those were the teachers!" Rose exclaimed.
"When Finch arrived, he brought with him seven new teachers, four dinner ladies and a nurse, thirteen. Thirteen big bat people. Come on." The Doctor stated before he turned to go into the building again.
"Come o-You've got to be kidding!" Mickey protested.
"I need the TARDIS. I've gotta analyze that oil from the kitchen."
"I might be able to help you with that," Sarah Jane said, prompting an annoyed look from Rose, "I've got something to show you."
She grabbed his arm, pulling him back towards the car and leaving Rose, Mickey, and I to follow behind them. Rose went ahead of us, and I fell into step beside Mickey.
"I take it Rose is the jealous type?" I whispered, absently twisting the strap of my messenger bag.
"Now she knows how I feel every time she goes swannin' off with the Doctor." He muttered. I offered him a sympathetic smile, clapping his shoulder as we reached the car. Sarah Jane opened the truck, revealing a blanket-covered structure that I was all too familiar with. The Doctor pulled the blanket off, smiling excitedly at the sight.
"K-9!" He exclaimed. "Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, allow me to introduce K-9-Well, K-9 Mark 3 to be precise."
"Why does he look so...disco?" Rose questioned.
"Oi! Listen, in the year five thousand, this was cutting edge." The Doctor scolded. "What's happened to him?"
"One day, just...Nothing. Mary's been able to get him up and running a couple of times, but it only ever lasts a few seconds." The Doctor glanced at me.
"Let me guess, your dreams somehow mysteriously taught you about the tech of the future?" He asked. I offered him a sarcastic smile. "Ooh, what's the nasty lady done to you, eh?"
"Real charmer, this one. I don't know how you've got one woman wanting to spend time with you let alone two." He shot me a look.
"Look, no offense, but can you three just stop pettin' and arguin' for a minute?" Rose asked. "Never mind the tin dog, we're busy."
"Ah, that's why. You've got to have someone around to talk some sense into you." I stated. "She's right, and I'm starving, so what's say we take K-9 to the nearest café, grab some dinner, and see if the 'all powerful Doctor' and I can get him fixed up, yeah?"
"Sounds perfect! Get in." Sarah Jane walked over to the driver's seat, while both the Doctor and I reached for the handle to the passenger. I moved my hand, letting the Doctor pull it open before climbing inside ahead of him.
"Oi!"
"Thanks, Doctor! And they say chivalry is dead." I shut the door, buckling my seatbelt and crossing my arms, glaring out the windshield.
"Do you think you could ease up on the sarcasm?" Sarah whispered. "That's my oldest friend that you're berating."
"You can cozy up to him all you like, Sarah Jane. That doesn't mean that I have to." She sighed, but started the car up as Rose, Mickey, and the Doctor climbed into the back seat and we headed for the nearest restaurant.
