Chapter 84: Last Chance

"That prideful idiot!! Has he forgotten what just 100 of those colossi did to thousands of our troops!?"

Lilith said with cold sweat running down her back. Fully knowing what her husband is planning on doing based on the tone of his voice. Making her anxiously walk back and forth in response.

"N-No... he's bringing at least a few ten thousand troops with him. I'm sure they could win but... the casualties they would suffer is unimaginable. Why can't he be a pacifist just this once and not provoke another faction as our enemy!?"

She said before Hiroto's words came to her mind. Making her grit her teeth in response since it seemed like what he said was true. Lucifer has now fallen to a point of no return because of his pride and selfishness.

Even though she is confident in the strength of her children. She doesn't want any more pointless sacrifices to achieve nothing. If Hiroto was capable of blowing up all traces of their technology on one colossus, didn't Lucifer think that he would also be capable to do the same to all of their troops? If they fought this battle, they would only suffer casualties while gaining close to nothing.

"Oh, it looks like you already finished relaying it"

A familiar voice said behind her in a casual tone, causing her entire body to freeze before she rigidly turned around. Making her see Hiroto standing at the door of her room. Leaning against the wall with a friendly smile on his face. It was as if what she did was something trivial.

"T-That... I-I..."

"You don't need to explain... I was already aware of it the moment you two arrived at my mansion. Did you think I was a fool? Lucifer gave both of you up to me too easily, and that in itself already aroused my suspicion"

He said as he walked towards her. Making Lilith try to activate a magic circle in her hand, but it immediately shattered as the defensive spell around the house activated. Shattering the structure of the magic circle before it could even completely form.

"No need to be so cautious, right? I'm pretty sure you already know that I have no intention of hurting you or Runeas. I was sincere with the peace treaty we signed but... I guess a devil's nature will never change"

"W-Wait! T-This isn't what my children wante-"

"And you're asking me to hold back or spare them? How naive can you be, Lilith? What do you want me to do, I wonder? Watch my people get slaughtered in front of me just because of sympathy? Only a brain-dead ruler would allow that to happen"

Lilith remained silent while clenching her first. She knew far too well that what she asked of him was extremely dumb and selfish, but she didn't back down and looked up at him with a determined expression on her face.

"I can ask them to spare your people once the war is over!"

"... Why are you assuming that you already won this upcoming battle? When you didn't even see the full extent of our capabilities. Yes, we are outnumbered by a lot, but you've only seen a fraction of our army.  None of our more powerful weapons have been taken out just yet. Why do you think I would choose to establish a base next to the devil faction despite its risk?"

"..."

"It is because of arrogance? Recklessness? No... because I know far too well that the devil faction is incapable of bringing us down. We would suffer casualties, but I'm confident I can bring 70% of your entire faction down with me in an all-out war. And I'm sure none of you want to lose that 70%, especially since you are still at war with both Heaven and Grigori"

He said, causing Lilith to shiver in response. Looking at his eyes he had no arrogance nor pride like Lucifer, but only absolute confidence and determination. Making it seem to her like he really could accomplish what he declared.
