Carol wanted to be alone and so did I. Making my way to the farmhouse I ran into Dale. He looked around before signing.
"You need to tell Rick." He signed with concern.
I shook my head, "About what?"
"What Shane did to you in the swamp. He needs to know."
My hand unconsciously landed on my neck, "No. And you won't tell anyone either."
We had enough problems. A confrontation could set Shane off. I was focused on Carol's well-being.
Dale stopped me from walking away, "It could help. He's too dangerous."
"I said no. Keep it to yourself we don't need any more problems."
When I looked back to the farmhouse I noticed Daryl watching from afar. I just hope he couldn't tell what we were saying. When I went inside I knew I needed to check on Beth. That was her family our group gunned down. Guilt ran through my spine. When I walked over to her room, Lori and Maggie were standing beside her. She was just gazing into nothing. She was in shock. Lori was trying to get her attention before discussing something with Maggie. Sophia was teaching Carl sign language so I hoped he taught at least a little to his mother.
I tapped Lori on the shoulder, "Is she okay?"
"No. We need Hershel." She understood but her signing was sloppy.
Not that it mattered. Beth clearly needed help but Rick and Glenn went to go talk to Hershel. I had no idea where they went. After the funeral everything was chaotic. The group was barely holding on. Families were broken and it didn't seem like they could be put back together. Lori and I walked downstairs to where Daryl was. It looked like he was moving his stuff or something. I don't blame him. He almost died trying to find Sophia. I have no doubt her death hit him like a train.
Lori walked up to him, "Listen, Beth's in some kind of catatonic shock. We need Hershel."
Daryl shrugged, "Yeah. so what?"
"So I need you to run into town real quick and bring him and Rick back."
He didn't answer. He just stared at her.
She called out to him, "Daryl?"
He was clearly pissed off, "Your bitch went window-shopping. You want him? Fetch him yourself. I got better things to do."
"What's the matter with you? Why would you be so selfish?"
He scoffed, "Selfish? Listen to me, Olive Oyl. I was out there looking for that little girl every single day. I took a bullet and an arrow in the process. Don't tell me about getting my hands dirty! You want those two idiots? Have a nice ride. I'm done looking for people."
My mouth gaped at his response but at the same time, I understood. He worked harder than anyone else. Sacrificed his blood, sweat, and tears for her. So did I. Turns out we were searching for nothing. It was all for nothing. His anger was justified. But yelling in Lori's face wasn't. He rushed out of the farmhouse leaving Lori wide-eyed. I followed him all the way to the edge of the farm before he finally turned around to acknowledge me.
"Why are you following me?", He took deep breaths.
"I know what guilt looks like. I don't want you blaming yourself. I went with you every single time to look for her so it's not just on you."
He scoffed, "Yeah, like you were any help. You're deaf."
I slapped him across the face, standing there looking at him with disgust.
'I fought two men, twice my size, with cracked ribs and a concussion. I slaughtered him like an animal while he did this to me." I pointed to my neck, "And I did it all for her. For Sophia. I chose to live so I could see her again. Don't you dare ever say that I didn't help."
We just stood there staring daggers into each other's eyes. Our chests were heaving with anger. I turned to start heading back to the farmhouse when he grabbed my wrist, pulling me into him. He held my jaw as our lips interlocked. At first, I wanted to push him away. Ask him what the hell he was doing. But I didnt. I may be pissed off but with everything going on, I needed this. I drew him closer and let his passion control him. He was in charge. As he stepped forward I backed up, our bodies still intertwined, until I hit a tree. I took in a sharp breath but I didnt care about the pain. The world was ending and I was not dying a virgin. His hands traced my waist and grabbed my t-shirt. I put my palm on his chest and stepped back, throwing my shirt over my head and onto the forest floor. The warm air hit my skin as I stood there in my zip-up sports bra. I rammed myself back into him and shoved my lips onto his. All I could feel was anger and I knew I needed a release or I was going to explode. Our eyes met as he began unzipping the front of my bra and I started unbuttoning my jeans. Then he just stopped. He looked towards the farm with a confused look on his face and started running. You've got to be kidding me. I buttoned my jeans and grabbed my top off the ground, throwing it back on, and letting out a sigh of frustration. Going back to the farmhouse I saw what caught his attention. Shane was holding Lori while everyone was gathering around them. Her head and nose were bleeding. As I walked up they were clearly arguing. Carl rushed over and I finally knew what caught everyone's attention. Lori was pregnant. No wonder Shane was so worried about her. I see the way they look at one another. I'm deaf, not blind.
