Nevertheless, one responsibility that she constantly had to argue with her parents about was the subject of marriage. They believed she needed to keep the Rosier line pure while assisting the other Pureblood families with continuing their line. Ominis was her age. He was a Gaunt. A direct descendant from Salazar Slytherin so they could overlook his condition. Both Hogwarts students had a close relationship... To their parents, it was a match made by Merlin himself.
Little did they know or maybe...they did and just didn't care, but Ominis and Séraphine had a sibling relationship. Neither considered the other a prospective romantic partner. Ominis was the first one to notice her feelings for Sebastian as a first year.
Offering extra help during Beast Studies when she hated learning about Acromantulas and other species of magical spiders. Her Boggart in fifth year was one.
It was clear to Ominis then that she had a fondness for the playful, mischievous new friend of his. Séraphine had been hoping this summer would change things as-She shook her head abruptly.
Stop.
Those memories were too painful. He would never look at her like that again. It was something she had to accept for getting his sister cursed. Sebastian Sallow would never care for her. Never grow to love her.
He hated her.
What the Duck
The next day, Séraphine walked into the Charms classroom in fresh spirits. Compartmentalizing her feelings was the only way to survive these days. Once her best subject was over, she'd break down the door into the next recess of her mind, and use her negative feelings as fuel for dueling next class.
She was a bit early, but that was natural. Séraphine hated being late. She spotted Poppy walking up the stairs, taking a seat towards the back of the classroom behind Ominis who had one leg on the ground and another on his bench seat, and he held his face in his hands. Sebastian looked tired, but was staring at him with weary amusement.
Leander passed by her, taking a seat next to Duncan on the other side of the room which was not the smartest move. Normally those two stayed far away from each other because Ominis would play pranks on Duncan and Sebastian on Leander. Sitting next to each other was like asking to be jinxed.
"Here-behind you. There is an open seat here." Séraphine heard Natty to her immediate right and had begun to walk forward when another witch brushed past her. She must have worn a confused look because Natty smiled apologetically at her, "Sorry Séra. I told the new student I'd show her around."
The new seventh year was a couple inches taller than Séraphine. With her wavy black cut short just below her jawline. She tucked a strand behind her ear with a shy smile. "I hope you don't mind. Thank you."
Séraphine smiled easily, "It's no trouble. Welcome to Hogwarts."
Heading towards Poppy, she could hear Natty asking the new student if she'd met Professor Ronen yet. The Hufflepuff grinned up at her as she approached closer.
"Did you get replaced by the new student?"
She rolled her eyes, "It's her first day. Natty's escorting her I guess. She's a Slytherin though, wouldn't one of them-" Séraphine jerked her head towards Sebastian and Ominis, "-be responsible for escorting her?"
