"It started when you repaired that relief. I hear a whisper saying, 'speak to me.'" He gestured to himself, "You know I'm a Parselmouth-I can hear and speak to snakes. Nearly all known Parselmouths are descended from Salazar Slytherin."
"Then speak to it." Catherine said bluntly, cocking her hip. "There's no other way, but forward. You don't have a choice."
Séraphine placed a hand on his arm. "You do have a choice. Sebastian and I will support any decision you make. We'll figure something out."
The other wizard beside her nodded in agreement. "You're my brother. We do this together." He paused, "But preferably alive, if we're being honest. I've yet to woo Séra and ask her to be my lover properly."
She didn't miss the way Catherine's face was marred with jealous and irritation. It brought her a brief feeling of satisfaction. Her and Sebastian were always meant to be together one day. It was her fault for thinking any differently.
Too bad she would be turning him down soon. What a huge, conflicting battle between heart and mind.
"It's too late. She's engaged." Ominis remarked dryly, before taking a deep breath. "I can't believe I'm doing this.
He began to speak in a series of hissing noises and sssss sounds.
Ominis was speaking Parseltongue.
Regretting Him
The doors snaked open. Literally. The two coiled snakes in the front of the door spiraled upwards until it wrapped around a circular piece of metal on the front of the door. The circular piece turned round and round until it barged open.
Sebastian's eyes flickered between Séraphine and Ominis. "Between the two of you, I'm starting to feel left out."
Ominis and Séraphine's were in a flat unison tone. "Good."
He scoffed, eyes shining with amusement before Catherine led the way in first.
Frustration ran rampant in her tone. "Which way now?"
"There's no clear way forward." Sebastian was entirely unperturbed, his eyes fixated on Séraphine. Under the dim light, she turned to avoid him seeing her cheeks start to turn a rosy shade. Honestly, they could be trapped forever and he'd be perfectly content as long as he had her and Ominis beside him. There was still a piece missing. One in the form of a mischievous younger Sallow twin.
"Like a maze." Ominis held his wand out, emitting a beacon-like pulse of light that reverberated around the room. "Salazar Slytherin most likely wanted this to be difficult."
"The door we came from-it closed, and there's more than one gate up ahead." He muttered, glancing at Catherine with his lip curled up in disgust. "You're good at casting explosive charms unnecessarily. How about you go light those torches?"
Catherine's olive eyes twinkled. Her lips pursing into a seductive smile. "Bossing me around? Careful, I do like that."
Anger spiked her pulse, but Sebastian's words were harsh. "Mongrels normally do."
Séraphine clicked her tongue. "Don't say that. Mongrel fur is a useful potion ingredient. Catherine is completely useless."
"I'm going to enjoy killing you one day."
