Growing up

Prologue

*Alex POV*
Beep beep beep is all I hear in the hospital room. My parents have been in here for a month after the car accident and are expected not to make it. The beeping is starting to slow down. The doctors rush in and the beeping stops. They're gone. My parents are gone. I run out into the hall into my brother's arms.
"I love you Alex and nothing can change that" he says
"Promise" I ask
"Promise squirt" he says using the nickname he gave me when I was five
"I love you too. Chad what's going to happen to me now that mom and dad are gone" I ask
"I'm not sure but you'll probably live with Fallon and me" he says
"Ok" I say
"Why don't we go. I have to run to the studio. Wanna come" he asks
"Sure why not" I answer
Before we could leave a nurse stops us.
"Are you two the children of them" she asks
"Yeah" Chad says
"How old are you" she asks me
"12" I say
"And you" she asks Chad
"27" he says
"Is she going to live with you, another family member, or put into foster care" she asks
"She's going to live with me" he says
"Great. All you have to do is go to the front desk and there will be someone with some papers for you to sign to say that she's living with you" she says
"Thank you" he says
We walk to the front desk and find the person. Chad signs the papers and then we head out. We get into the car and I let out a big sigh.
"What's wrong Alex" he asks
"I don't know Chad. I just miss mom and dad already" I say
"I know. I do too" he says
He starts driving and we arrive at the studio. I come with him a lot when they have to record. We head inside and the guys are there.
"Hey guys" chad says
"Hey" they say
I go over and sit between Chad and Alan. I lean my head on Chad's chest.
"What's wrong kiddo" Caleb asks
I don't answer because if I do I'm going to burst into tears. Chad answers instead.
"Our parents just died like half an hour ago." He says
"Aw man that's so sad" Caleb says
"Who is Alex going to live with" Alan asks
"I'm going to live with Chad" I say
"Aww that's so sweet. You're lucky he cares about you. Unlike me" Joey pouts
"Lil bro I do care about you but I care about my little sis more" Chad says
"Love you Chaddy" I say kissing his cheek
"Love you too" he sighs
I know he hates that name. That's why I call him it.
"Well lets get started with stuff" Alan says
"Alright" Chad says
They stand up and head to another room. I pull my phone out and just fool around. I end up falling asleep.
*Chad POV*
We finish working on the song and head back to where Alex is. I see that she's asleep so I use this time to call Fallon.
F-hey Chad what's up
C-hey! I'm just letting you know that Alex is living with is now. Our parents died this morning
F-that's so sad. You're a great big brother. I'm proud of you
C-ok see you soon
I hang up and go back over to the couches. I wake Alex up.
"Hey sis. Ready to go" I ask
"I want to sleep" she whines
"You can sleep in the car" I say
"Ugh. But I don't want to get up" she says
"Fine." I say
I lick her up bridal style and she falls back asleep. I say bye to the guys and head to my car. I put her in then I get in. I drive to my house and carry her inside and up to the room she'll be staying in. I go back downstairs and sit next to Fallon on the couch.
"Hey chad" she says
"Hey" I say
"Where's Alex" she asks
"She fell asleep at the studio so I carried her upstairs." I say
"OK" she says
"I'm gonna run to my parents house and grab some of Alex's stuff" I say
"Okay and Chad" she says
"Yeah" I ask
"What are we going to do about school with her? didn't she get home schooled" she asks
"Yeah. I'll think of something. Don't worry about it" I say
"I won't" she says
I go to my parents house and grab some clothes and some of her favorite things including her giant stuffed Cheetah I got her. I the head back to my house. Alex still isn't awake and it's almost time for dinner. I'm starting to wonder how much sleep she actually got last night. I go upstairs to wake her up for dinner.
"Alex. Sis. It's time to get up. Dinner is ready" I say
"I'm tired. I want to sleep" she says
"Come on up up up. You have to eat" I say
She reluctantly sits up only half awake.
"How much sleep did you get last night" I ask
"About one hour or two" she says
"Why" I ask
"I was scared and worried" she says
"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask
"I didn't want to wake you up" she says
"It's fine to wake me up. I care for you. I don't want you to worry or feel scared. I'm here for you" I say
"Ok" she says
"Lets go eat" I say
"I'm not that hungry" she says
"So. You will eat. I bet you haven't eaten in a while" I say
"I'm not hungry" she says
"Come on. Fallon made your favorite. Her family's homemade Mac n cheese." I say
"Fine. Bit only because I know you'll make me eat something" she grumbles
"Thank you for humoring me" I say
"No problem Chadwick" she exclaims and runs downstairs.
"Hey get back here" I say chasing after her
"Woah Woah woah. What's going on" Fallon asks
"Nothing" Alex says
"Yeah. Ok sure. Well dinners ready" she says
We head to the table and sit down. I pray then we eat.
"So Alex I decided I'm going to homeschool you" I say
"I'm can Caleb teach me English and Literature because I don't want you to teach me those" she says
"Oh don't worry I don't want to teach them. I think Caleb would love to teach you" I say
She nods I. Agreement and continues eating. When we're done eating I do the dishes then join the other two on the couch.
"Chad can we watch the lion king" Alex asks
"No" I say
"Please" she begs
"Never" I say
"Fine" she says
She gets up and sits on my lap.
"Why are you sitting in my lap" I ask
"You won't turn on the lion king" she says
"So. I'm gonna watch tangled" I say
"Chadwick Matthew Graham it is I'm going to not I'm gonna. Caleb would be ashamed with you right now" she says
"I don't care. And if you act like Caleb I'll treat you like Caleb" I say putting her in a headlock
"Chad stop. I'm not Caleb or Joseph. I'm you little sister who you love and care about" she laughs
"Why are you laughing" I ask
"I think it's funny you haven't pushed me off your lap yet" she says
"Oh you mean like this" I say pushing her so she slides down my legs
"Oh my gosh Chad. I haven't done that in forever. I use to love doing slidy board with you" she exclaims
"I know. Sometimes I still Picture you screaming at the joy of it" I laugh
"Are we going to watch a movie or am I going to watch you two bicker as the movie" Fallon asks
"We'll watch a movie. How about night at the museum 3" I suggest
"Ooh yes" Alex says
I put the movie in and Alex lays he head on my chest.
"Don't fall asleep now. The movie just started" I whisper in her ear
"I'm not falling asleep I'm getting comfy" she whispers back
"Ok. Whatever you say" I say
The movie is half way over when Fallon falls asleep with her head on my shoulder. Alex I still in my lap, but laying down. I look at her and see that she's barely awake. The movie ends and she's asleep. I guess I'm not moving upstairs to sleep. I put my feet up on the coffee table and fall asleep.
