Dream POV.
Skeppy and Bad had both of us on the couch, wanting to give us some kind of ‘talk’, however maintaining a low volume the entire time as to not risk waking the humans upstairs. Sapnap and I thought this would be pointless, since we lived with a pet already (Patches), so having another two shouldn’t be that much harder.
The two experienced demons however, said that it would be a lot more difficult, especially regarding the condition the two humans were in thanks to us. “So… how much do you guys actually know about humans?” Bad asked. “Since we want to know how much we need to cover for you both.”
“We know enough.” I simply responded, leaning back in my chair. After spending just over thirty hours streaming, and then another two or three hours chasing, injuring, and catching a human, I was feeling exhausted, wanting to go and have a nap.
“Yeah. Humans are basically the exact same as demons, except weaker.” Sapnap shrugged.“No, that’s not exactly how I would put it.” Bad muttered. “I’d say that those cute little muffins just didn’t evolve like we did. We evolved similarly, but they didn’t evolve any stronger senses and stuff like us.” The brunette’s eyes glowed a soft red as he thought of a way to put this.
Skeppy noticed the pride demon’s hesitance and began speaking up instead. “That is sort-of the case. Humans are less strong and fast as us, and they don’t have as much stamina or endurance. That typically means if they do try anything, to fight you or to run off, it is pretty easy to stop them.”
Bad glared at Skeppy before continuing. “Anyway, most humans when they are found, your two humans included, are very underweight. They have struggled to eat much over the past few years, and so even though we want to have them put on a little weight, you will have to take it slowly due to refeeding syndrome.”
I’m not sure at what point I dozed off from Bad’s explanation, but it was some point after that. It was insulting that he felt that we didn’t know enough about humans to know what was right and wrong, but neither me nor Sapnap spoke up about it.
When I woke up, only a few minutes had passed but both Skeppy and Bad had moved, now sitting on the couch adjacent to us, cuddled up with one another. If I listened quietly I could faintly hear their purring at the close proximity to one another. I attempted to make it seem as though I hadn’t fallen asleep.
“Why don’t you guys have your own human?” Sapnap eventually asked. “You know a lot about them, after all you two were planning on settling down, right?”
“We were planning on settling down.” Bad nodded. “But I’ve got Rat, I can’t possibly have anything else besides her and Skeppy.”Hearing about their relationship always made me somewhat jealous. How the two of them were able to settle down with one another and live happily. I wanted to be able to do that myself one day, but so far I hadn’t been able to meet anyone who I was wanting to do that with.
The two of them were also able to break society norms. Demons were often expected to marry or mate with demons of their own kind (pride demon and pride demon, or greed demon and greed demon), or to another common species (lust demons would mate with anyone). A pride demon and a greed demon were unheard of.
The thought of just being able to throw out the expectations of everyone around you was baffling to me, yet I was also intrigued by it and would love nothing more than finding someone who would be willing to do something like that for me: Throw out normalcy so we can be happy together.
I mean, was that too much to ask? Had I pissed off somebody at some point in my life to mean that I didn’t deserve that? Pride demons are often providers and that is all I wanted to be, someone who was able to look after whoever it was I settled down with. Meaning they never had to worry about anything.
“Remember as well, humans are very stubborn when it comes to new things.” Skeppy told us firmly. “They will likely not want to be touched, especially in the first few weeks.”
“Yeah, no forcing anything on the cute little muffins.” Bad said as a final piece of information. “And don’t get mad if they try to run, they can be quite skittish.”Both of us nodded understanding before Bad let out a small yawn and nuzzled into Skeppy’s side The ravenette took note of this and motioned for his love to stand up. “We should probably get going.” He commented. “It seems that Bad is quite tired, and you probably would want to check on your humans soon, just to make sure they are okay.”
We thanked them both profusely for their help, and apologised for dragging them out here at this time in the night. Then we exchanged ‘good evneing’s and ‘see you later’s before they let themselves out. Sapnap and I watched from the window as they drove out of the driveway and disappeared into the night.
Once they were gone we began turning off all the lights and closing curtains before heading upstairs. This is where the two of us split up, each going to our side of the house to look after the two humans. Before I entered the brunette’s room, I waited patiently outside to listen and see if he was awake or not.
He was asleep, unsurprisingly. Curled up under the covers with my hoodie covering most of his face. When he woke up, after I’d made sure he'd build up his strength and put on some more weight, then I’d buy him some clothes of his own. Until then though, I was fine with lending him hoodies and shirts, and took in the sweet smell that mixed between him and my clothes.
I didn’t even know his name yet, but based on the humans I’ve met already they can be quite stubborn. I hoped that this human wouldn’t be the same, even though I knew that it could be quite interesting if he was like this though. After most of my days fell into a similar routine, having something like this human would be a fun change of pace.
My ears twitched slightly and I heard quiet breathing coming from the brunette, making sure that he was still alive. Then I approached to check the temperature, wanting to make sure he wasn’t getting too hot or too cold. Fortunately, the brunette human seemed perfectly fine, and so I retreated to my own room next door.
Demons did not need to sleep usually, however after everything that had happened I was exhausted. Now that I knew that the human was alright, I figured that both he and I deserved to have a long rest.
