George POV.

The room was still dark, and I woke up to my stomach rumbling. A blush of embarrassment grew on my face as I knew that Dream was right about me needing food. The demon was asleep with me on top of him. His breathing was slow and content as I snuck out of his arms. However, he did wake up and look over at me.

“Are you alright?” He asked, his eyes glowing in the dark, and it was bright enough to illuminate his entire face and my face as well.
“I’m just hungry.” I told him. “I am going to go get something to eat. You can stay here.” For a few moments, Dream just sat there before nodding his head.

“Okay then,” he responded. “Go get yourself something to eat, and I’ll wait here for you.” As I walked out of the room in the darkness, Patches followed after me. She probably wanted food, and so I let her come with me.

After stepping out in the dark hallway, I shuffled towards the stairs in the darkness. Dream’s bedroom door was shut behind me so that I didn’t disturb him too much, but just moments after his door shut, another door opened. This was my bedroom door, and my father stepped out tiredly while looking at me.

“George…” he spoke quietly, and I gave him a small smile while looking at him. “I was so worried about you after you left last night.”
“I’m fine, Dad,” I reassured him. “I just went to sleep in another room.” I then paused, thinking about how he hadn’t eaten anything yet.

“If you’d like, you could come downstairs with me and get something to eat. Since neither of us has eaten dinner.” He gave a nod and followed after me. We walked down the stairs slowly in the darkness, with Patches weaving between our legs in an attempt to get us to trip over.

I led the pair downstairs and into the kitchen before turning on the light. Both me and my father took a few moments to adjust to the light before I walked in and opened the cupboard, looking for something to eat. “They just let you go in the cupboards?” My father asked, following after me, and his eyes drifted over all of the different boxes and jars and containers.

“Yeah they do,” I smiled and nodded. I grabbed a box of cereal, something called Lucky Charms, which I remembered from my childhood. A grin appeared on my face, and I poured some into a bowl before going over to the fridge to get some milk. The entire time, my father watched me wordlessly.

“Back with Rygar, he and his family didn’t let us humans anywhere near where they kept food. They thought we would steal stuff, and so cooking was the only job that they actually did for themselves.” My father recounted, and my eyes were wide as I heard that. The thought of not being trusted by Dream didn’t seem nice.

“You can grab yourself something if you’d like.” I told him with a smile. “Dream and Sapnap wouldn’t mind.” Then I began pointing stuff out for him. “You can get bowls and plates from that cupboard over there. If you want to heat something up, there is the microwave. Oh, and if you need a fork or a spoon or whatever it’s in the drawer over there.”

I felt proud as I showed off the kitchen to my father, and he nodded slowly as he took everything in. It was me showing how I had improved after everything that I went through, even if that improvement happened after I was taken by a demon to initially be a pet.

“I haven’t actually eaten in a while.” He noted after I said that. “And when we did get to eat, it usually wasn't much either.” He continued. He looked around and grabbed a plate before beginning to pile lots of food onto his plate.

Although I thought it was excessive, I mean there were still heaps of food, so he wasn’t going to run out after one plateful, I didn’t say so. I took my food over to the table and sat down, with him slowly following after me and sitting down. We faced each other, and for a moment, I paused, smiling at the familiar feeling of sitting for a meal with the family.

Back when Karl had been living with me in the cabin in the woods, we didn’t have a table. There wasn’t one when we found it, which we felt was a bit strange. However, we didn’t question it. I figured that maybe someone had taken some of the stuff from the cabin for firewood. When we did eat we’d either sit on the floor, or on the bed, or just stand.

Part of me wanted to say something to my Dad, a conversation like when I lived with my family back over ten years ago. I hadn’t been able to have a conversation while eating for ages, even with Dream I’d usually just sit with him, and we’d cuddle up and watch a movie or something.

Yet as I looked over at my father, I couldn’t think of anything to say, so I lowered my head and just spooned some of the cereal into my mouth. I avoided eye contact with my father as I continued to eat, and once we were both finished, I took his plate and stuck it in the sink, Dream would clean it in the morning.

“We should probably get back to bed.” I muttered, glancing over at my Dad as I said it. “I am kinda tired, and Dream is probably wondering where I am.”
“Does that demon really care about you?” My father asked. “Or does he think that if you aren’t nearby that you somehow escaped?” His voice was laced with concern.

“He does care about me.” I reassured him. “Dream does care.”
“And so do I.” My father responded. “I just don’t know if it is safe for you to trust a demon.” He didn’t seem to be saying this out of any real hatred, more-so out of fear for his only family member, well his only remaining family member.

“I’ll be fine.” I reassured. “You don’t have to trust him, Dad, but I do. I’ll be fine.” Reluctantly, he nodded, possibly thinking that he had no other options. I turned off the light, and then I walked upstairs, and my father trailed up after me.

I waited in the doorway of Dream’s room while he walked to my room. When he went into the room and shut the door behind him I finally stepped into the demon's bedroom. The blond was sitting up on his phone and when I came in he smiled at me. “Welcome back,” he said as I slid into the bed and shuffled back over to him.

He wasn’t purring this time yet I did find myself moving to lean against him, accepting the warmth that he gave off. I quickly found myself drifting off to sleep once again in his arms.

Phone issue has sorted itself out.

Also George's Dad in this book was meant to be the way you all thought George's Dad was in the other book. Except instead of George's Dad being understandably protective and scared of demon's who just wants to protect his son (like in the original), this version is just an asshole.
