George POV.

After reading a few chapters of the book we stopped for lunch. The two of us had switched between reading and occasionally Philza took over for a few pages when there were lots of words that we didn’t know. Karl tried to talk Sapnap into reading once or twice but he refused, seeming content to listen to us reading.

“Would any of you like juice?” Sapnap asked the three of us, pulling a carton of orange juice out of the picnic basket along with four plastic cups.
“Yes please.” I said with a smile, and both Karl and Phil said something similar.

As the wrath demon poured us drinks I subtly stood up and looked around. I was hoping to be able to see Dream coming, since I had been waiting for him all morning and was getting somewhat jealous about the way that Karl was cuddling Sapnap. Unfortunately both he and Techno had not appeared yet, one of which I was upset about.

Philza caught me staring in the direction of the house. “Are you missing Dream?” He asked, only glancing away to look towards Sapnap as he was handed the cup. I nodded. He was like a drug that I was addicted to, a good drug of course that caused me no harm whatsoever and was just as addicted to me.

After everything I had done with him I wanted nothing more than to just be with him again, to be able to be held in his arms where I knew that nothing would happen to me. I loved the way he’d praise me and hold me and kiss me and tell me that I was the most important thing in the world to him.

“If you wanted I could walk back to the house and find him.” Philza told me. “And I could tell him off for not coming to his beloved human.” The demon's eyes glowed even brighter as he said that and I nodded thankfully.

With a surprising amount of speed he turned into a giant birdlike creature and disappeared up into the sky with a flap of his wings. Both Karl and I stared in awe, watching the demon bird fly off with Sapnap smiling at our reactions and continuing to pour our cups of juice. “It’s pretty impressive seeing that isn’t it?” He asked.

“How can he fly?” Karl asked curiously as he held his cup in two hands and sipped slowly.
“Oh, well his second form is like a bird. So he has wings that can fly.” Sapnap’s simple explanation caused a grin to grow on Karl’s face.
“Really? He asked. “It’s so honking cool!”

Sapnap grinned before grabbing himself something to eat and as he chewed on the jerky he’d grabbed Karl leaned more on him. “Can you fly?” My best friend asked curiously, grinning and pushing himself closer to the demon’s face.
“No.” He responded. “I can set myself on fire.”

After hearing that Karl’s eyes widened more. “Really?” He asked. “Can you show me?” The brunette human had basically climbed onto Sapnap’s lap.
“Maybe later.” Sapnap answered with a loving sigh. Then as they stared at one another they melted into a kiss, with my best friend's arms wrapping around Sapnap’s shoulders.

Before they started getting too touchy I stood up and began walking off. I wanted to stay near for when Philza brought Dream back, but I didn’t want to watch them making out. So I wandered away without either of the pair noticing and gave myself time to think.

As I walked away from the tree and the house I listened to all of the sounds of the forest which had been brushed away from my memory after spending a while living in a house. The last time I had been out here was when my Dad took me. In fact, it was possibly in this very spot where I had last seen him before Dream had…

Even after what he had done to me the thought of my father being killed still put a strange feeling in my stomach. The sounds of the river which had traumatised me and still continued to was even flushed out as I stood lost in thought. I was reminded about everything that happened with him.

All the times my father drunkenly yelled at me as a kid. The way he never appeared for any of mine or my siblings school shows or awards or sports games. Him dictating everything that happened in our house whether it be the film we watch for movie night, or our dinners, or the kitchen renovations.

I found myself slumping onto the ground, just lost in thoughts about my past. Sitting on the soft dirt of the forest floor with the warm air and soothing sounds put a rose coloured tint on all of these memories, despite how sad they were underneath. Yet having something bittersweet being seen coming out of my trauma somehow felt good as though it was worth something.

Who knows how long I sat there, just reflecting on my past in the surprisingly tranquil forest. I could feel the sun moving and shadows running over my face. Perhaps Philza had found Dream and brought him back by now. They might all be worried about me. Or maybe Techno has convinced them to abandon me.

No, that was stupid I scoffed. Dream would never allow Techno to get them to forget me or eat me. But as I sat there and continued to think about my past I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I hummed lovingly, leaning back into the sun as I waited for Dream to get to me, grinning playfully as I did.

A hand rested itself on my shoulder but before I could process anything I was forced down onto the ground and a knife was thrusted into my face. Before I could panic or scream of anything a deep voice told me to ‘not even think about fucking talking’. My eyes widened as I looked at my Dad.

But that’s impossible. Dream killed my Dad.
