Wonder what this chapter could be about.

George POV.

Recently, Sapnap and Dream would allow us to wander slightly further away from them. After spending ages building up trust, they now believed we wouldn’t run off. Both of them were about one hundred feet away as Karl and I chuckled with each other. His hand was holding mine and he was pulling me through the bushes.

We were enjoying ourselves, loving being able to have this freedom instead of being cooped up in the house all day every day. Earlier today as we were walking Karl came upon a clearing which none of us had ever seen before. So Karl sat down on the grass and began weaving a daisy crown with the flowers he picked.

It was now sitting on his head, partially covered with his wavy chestnut coloured hair. He also managed to make a bracelet which he gifted to Sapnap (was I jealous that I didn’t get a cute little bracelet from my best friend, possibly). Now he was just trying to find some more flowers to make crowns out of while talking about how his mother and him made them all the time.

The sun was beginning to set in the distance, which was something that both of the demons were wary about, more worried for us instead of being worried for themselves. Apparently they had the ability to see in the dark, and didn’t really care about the cold, at least not for their own sake. They did care a lot for our sake.

‘Just a few more minutes’ Karl would always plead, feeling desperate to find flowers to make me my crown that he’d promised. Even though Sapnap and Dream had both offered to take us to a park in town to build a crown since it had thousands of daisies, he didn’t care.

It was as if he was finally able to be reunited with his mother through this activity that they shared a love for. The passion that blazed in his eyes as he tried to make me a gift, but he wasn’t able to.

As I got close enough I suddenly heard the sound of water rushing and froze. My body froze up and I must have begun shaking since Karl ended up pulling my arm. “C’mon George.” He said, not noticing my reaction. The brunette continued to pull me towards the river until we were standing at the edge of the water.

“Karl…” my voice was anxious. “T-the river?” My feet were on the edge of one of the large rocks lining the bank. Every so often a dollop of water would splash up onto my shoes, creating a darker patch. It made me even more worried and in my panic I stumbled slightly.
“Look.” He responded. “There are flowers over there. I can make you a crown like I promised!”

The river was dangerous, just like the last time we had come here, and when I had fallen in on the day Dream had found me, and in my nightmares every night since. Water rushed past my vision, fast enough to make me shiver with fears of being dragged off, of hitting the rocks and getting hurt.

If I were to slip, or to fall in then what would happen? I would be pulled away by the current and die, most likely. My body would be ripped apart by the jagged rocks, and I won’t be able to look after Karl like I had promised myself that I would when I first met him as a scared little kid with no family and I’d be a terrible person and… and…

My best friend was leaning closer to the water than I would have dared. It was enough to make me feel an ounce of fear, but not for him, instead for myself. “George?” It was Dream’s voice behind me. I glanced over, my gaze unsure and my fists clenched tightly. “Are you alright?” He noted my anxiousness.

His gaze was full of love and care and in a moment I shrunk back from the edge, turning to him and hugging his waist. I knew that he’d keep me safe from the water as it called my name and tempted me closer to the edge. Both Dream and Sapnap seemed confused with my actions, but Dream’s hands quickly went to hold me close.

Eventually I pulled away and dared a glance back towards the river and shivered. Everyone’s gaze was on me and I shafted awkwardly from one foot to the other. “George?” Karl asked, and I glanced over at him. Somehow in my minute of getting comfort from the demon he had slid into the river.

I looked over at my best friend with fear. Even though I had swum in the river, and bathed in the river many times over the years, I didn’t understand how he was able to be in there. Eventually I slunk back over to my friend, feeling bad about leaving him alone. Reluctantly I sat down at the edge of the water, attempting to just focus on my friend.

“Karl… perhaps we should head back.” Sapnap suggested for the millionth time. My best friend simply ignored him, muttering something about grabbing the flowers and then coming right back. He continued to wade out further into the river and my paranoia spiked up immensely.

“Karl! Wait please!” I tried to stop him from going away, to stop him from being ripped away by the river like I was in my nightmares. Before I could think I reached out in an attempt to grab him, in an attempt to protect him. Halfway to reaching him I remembered my fear and froze up, falling in the water.

It was so cold, and dark, and terrifying. I couldn’t manage to find the surface as I screamed, my oxygen flinging from my lungs and leaving me even more desperate for escape. Every time that I moved it felt like I was at more risk with the sharp rocks scraping at my skin, just as they did in my nightmares.

I tried to call out for Dream but my words were always ripped from my throat, until finally a pair of arms grabbed me and pulled me out of the water.

Dream POV.

“George!” I screamed as my precious human went under the water. He began writhing around under the surface as his body was pulled away by the fast moving current. Karl attempted to try and swim after him but Sapnap quickly called him back. Without even thinking I began sprinting towards the water.

I knew that I was fast in water when I looked like a human, but I was even faster when I wasn’t looking like one, and so I shifted into my second form and jumped into the water. The much narrower body along with the stronger arms allowed me to close the distance faster, with my claws digging into the rocks to help me push forward faster.

Quickly I managed to reach him and scoop him up into my arms, pulling him out of the surface and allowing his lungs to fill with air. I cradled his frail body, panting and feeling anxious at the thought of losing him.

His eyes were screwed shut as I carried him to land, since he probably thought he was going to freak out if he saw himself in the river still. Once we were on dry land one of his eyes opened, but when he looked at me he let out an ear piercing scream.
