George POV.

I wasn't really paying attention, just laying on the itchy uncomfortable blankets as I tried to sleep. It was strange that after having lived in the wild for over ten years I couldn't bring myself to sleep on some itchy blankets on a rocky floor but perhaps I had just gotten used to sleeping in a bed with Dream.

Suddenly a loud scream rang out, quickly followed by dozens more. All of them came from the panicked people around me and as I sat up I saw bodies moving everywhere. My eyes widened, trying to make out what they were all saying but it seemed that all of the voices seemed to merge together in a panicked flurry.

A hand grabbed my arm and desperately tried to pull me up but wasn't very strong. I looked over to see that it was Tallulah, desperately clutching her bear with one hand, and desperately pulling me with the other hand. "George, come on! We have to go!" She cried.

"What? Why?" I asked, still not completely sure or aware of what was happening.
"There are the demons!" Tears were running down her face. "They must have followed me! I let them get to everyone!" She sobbed and continued to pull me away.

The thought of demons made me want to cry. After everything that I had been through, the thought that I could be taken by demons, new demons, filled me with fear. I got up and held Tallulah closely, immediately starting to look around the room for a way out as my breathing grew uneven.

All of the tunnels only led further into the mine, meaning that we would be trapped if I went that way. The best way out would be through the entrance but that would mean having to pass the demons. It seemed that most of the people in this cave all had the same thought and were trying to run past the demons, which a lot of them were able to do.

Tallulah was still hugging me tightly as I held her. I was honestly surprised that I could lift her since I was surprisingly weak but I decided I'd think about that later. I decided that the best course of action would be to stick to the edge of the cave and head towards the entrance while not looking at the demons at all to avoid drawing attention.

The little girl was surprisingly silent as she shook against me and I got close enough to the wall that my shoulder felt every rough indentation we passed. With all of the panicked, desperate people in the middle that was where the demon's attention was, I just kept my head down and hurried past them into the darkening night.

Outside of the cave there was a small clearing which I stood in, looking around to try and spot Niki, or my father, or any of the other people that I recognised, but it seemed that I was alone. It was just me and Tallulah who seemed in too much shock to do anything, which basically meant that I was alone.

It seemed that any of the other people who had been staying here were gone. They had either disappeared into one of the tunnels in the mine which continued on further into the Earth, or they had managed to pass the demons and disappear into the forest. In the few moments that I hesitated I heard a voice behind me.

The voice was gruff, and angry, and exhausted. "George." It said, and my eyes widened. I spun around and my breath caught in my throat. It was Dream. Tears pricked in my eyes, after a week of not seeing my beloved demon I almost didn't believe it. What was the chance that I would be able to see him again after being dragged far from home.

If I had been able to, I would have run and jumped into his arms, holding him tightly as though if I let go of him he would be gone. I couldn't though, not when I was still hugging the small girl in my arms and my leg was still injured. So I opted to just look over at him with care and love in my eyes, happy for being able to be reunited.

"Dream." I whispered back to him, but before I could say anything Tallulah let out a hiccup-y sound, clutching at me tightly.
"George! Demons!" Tallulah hissed. "They could hurt us! We need to go!"
"It's okay." I tried to reassure her. "They won't hurt us."

She didn't seem to believe me, and I completely understood her. Both of us had lived most of our lives being taught that demons were dangerous and that they would kill and eat us the moment that they got the chance. Plus Tallulah, as a girl about seven or eight years old, had her parents killed by some demons. "How do you know?" She asked.

Although Dream seemed just as desperate as I was for physical contact he restrained himself, standing back with Techno and another demon I couldn't remember the name of. All three of them were watching us curiously.

"I've met these demons." I told her, speaking slowly and calmly as to not freak her out as she clutched her teddy bear. "They would never hurt anyone. You don't need to be worried about them." Even Techno would never hurt anyone, despite looking as though he could be a serial killer. I also neglected to tell the girl about the multiple demons Dream fought and injured for me.

For a few moments Tallulah remained sceptical. She pulled her face from the crook of my neck and glanced over at the three demons, eyeing them up warily. I wasn't sure what she was thinking as she looked over them. The demon that I didn't know the name of just kept watching her with his eyes glowing dimly.

Suddenly Dream let out a sad whimper. "George... your leg." His gaze had trailed down, away from my face and he seemed terrified. They were just the neat bandages which had been wrapped around them and had been made slightly dusty brown from the dirt of the forest, but I knew that he was very protective. So I nodded, not saying anything.

"But your Dad said that demons hurt your leg." Tallulah told me. "When Niki found him he told her that you were attacked and that the attack had killed your mom." I shook my head, feeling pissed at my Dad for lying about what had happened to us and had told people, including a little eight year old girl that my mum had been killed, when in reality she had died years ago.

"That never happened." I told her. "He's been lying to you." Then I took a small step towards Dream, who's eyes glowed brighter as he noticed my movement. "Look, I'll show you they are friendly." I reached out, wanting to hold Dream's hand. It was partially because I wanted to prove he wouldn't hurt me, but also because I'd grown desperate for his touch.

Before my hand got anywhere near his though, a sharp weapon was thrust through his chest and the demon let out a loud, fierce cry of pain.
